Century College?

For those of you who got to Century. I was just wondering if that school is a good school to start off at. I was planning on going there for two yrs to get my generals, but my parents bitched at me for three day straight saying I was wasting my time and I should just go to a Big University and become a doctor/lawyer. Then two of my sisters said that they had friends who went there and didnt learn anything. I've heard some pros and cons about that place, now I need a few opinions from people who actually go there. Thanks, if you can help a little.

Re: Century College?

I enjoyed it when I took Diesel Mechanics there about 5-6 years ago.
But I didnt learn as much as I could have, I goofed off, and thats nobodys fault but my own.
Wish I finished the class.

You know, Ive worked since the 11th grade, and didnt take any school after graduation. Yet I see MANY people from school, who are now done with college, and are living at home. Cant find a job, spent 4 years more at school, and many of thousands of dollars that they know are in debt for.
And are back at point a where I was 6 years ago when I graduated.

All depends on the person and what you want to do.
Just dont go to school because you think its the right thing to do, and dont go to some big school just because your parents want to.
Unless they want to pay for it all

Re: Century College?

What I had planned to do was go there for generals, like I've said earlier and then after I finish that I was going to switch to a University and finish school there. Since I dont know what I want to do yet, I thought I'd get my generals done while I think about what I want to do for the rest of my life. I know a few people who are thinking about doing the same thing, also.

Re: Century College?

Depending on where you transfer after your gens are done, Id say start off somewhere like Normandale or a school like that which is much cheaper and can transfer pretty much whereever. That is what Im doing now. Why spend 8k+ a year at the U and just get generals. My logic is transfer to the U or another top university once you are ready for a major.

Re: Century College?

I would agree, community college is cheaper and 95% of the courses transfer....

Re: Century College?

I like Century. If people dont learn anything there, it must be their own fault because they didnt go to class or didnt care to learn anything. Century's classes are exactly the same as those offered by the U of M. You can get the same education, with smaller classes at maybe 1/3 of the cost.

Re: Century College?

I really liked Century, I went for 2 years, was majoring in IT before i left. The IT Program is awesome there. My dad still works there as a Teachers Aid for the truck and diesel program, and a couple other programs for 916.
Generals should be taken at a school like this, it saves you money, and as long as your taking courses that transfer you should be fine. I 2 years at a 4 year university before i went to century, that was the biggest waste of time and money, the counselors didnt know anything about that i wanted to be doing with the rest of my life, and so they basically heard computers and put me in a Programming degree, which just out of high school didnt know that Management Informations Systems was not a networking degree. so i just partied and took generals and lived the college life, after 2 years of taking generals and MIS courses i finally sat down with a teacher and asked when we will be studying computer networking, he explained that programming is what MIS and CS was all about, im like WTF?!?! it was a total breath of fresh air going to Century college. The teachers were awesome, the courses were more real life situations. I really liked CC.

Re: Century College?

I am currently at Century and overall it seems to be a good school. I know a number of my friends took classes at places like Century (Anoke, etc) and had NO problems transferring credits to a major university when they were ready. Save yourself thousands and take the generals at a community college and transfer for your major.
