93 Grand Prix

I am replacing rear brakes on a 93 grand prix, discs...
and i need to push in the cylinder so that the new pads will fit over the new rotors...

how ever the cylinder isn't sliding back in ....


anyone know if the back is the one that screws in or whtf is wrong with it..

i tried the C clip, i've tried prybars... i removed a cap off the brake fluid reservoir,
i also loosened up the bleeder valve.. but no go back in....

That generation of Grand Prixs had very bad rear brakes. There was even a recall and class action lawsuit about the rear calipers because they would seize, and most likely that is what has happened in your case. I know mine were seized once and didn't know it, but I don't know what the shop did to fix them.

Well first try lightly stepping ont he brakes with the key on or the car on and see if the piston moves at all.. Have someone watch or step on the brakes very lightly till they move.

If they do move then Im guessing that those pistons are the kind that you need to twist to go back in.

There is a tool to twist them back in. It looks like a single die (single of dice) with nubs on each side. Each side does a different style of brake piston. I have this tool in my toolbox if you need to borrow it. You put it on a 3/8" ratchet with a small extension, line up the nubs and turn it back in.

well yes i know about that, i have that box looking tool as well.. however... whenever i turned it stayed at the same level.. i spun it like 20 times and it still stayed at the same level.. so i think its broken...

Either way it is getting replaced now.. $70 for new caliper and i'm done.. screw it..
