I bought an MTX RT2400 amplifier off ebay from a big seller.
Finished hooking it up tonight, hooked it all up right and made sure (triple checked it). Well I finished hooking up the fuse holder and connected the 60Amp fuse for one second and then I heard a quiet pop coming from the trunk (I was under the hood).
I take the fuse out quickly.. I was basically just holding it together to see what would happen when its connected all up. Well I go back to the trunk and theres smoke coming out of the bottom of the amp. I look at all the fuses (the 60A up front-and the 2 30 amp fuses on the amp and none of them are burnt up...
Thats why Im wondering WTF happened and was it just a POS from the start? I havent contacted the seller yet but will tommorow unless anyone has some advice.
The car was off so the remote wire shouldnt have had power. Ill pop the cover and take a look, also tommorow Ill check all the connections over again with test light.
Im just surprised it the wiring has a short why the fuses didnt blow.
I'd say, if you want my guys to take a look at it PM me. I will get it fixed or at least find out what happened. I have a pretty good connection to people up here in Dull-luth that will give me a decent price on anything. Let me know.
Well I ran all new power cable again just to make sure there were no shorts in the cable and I grounded it in a much better location but the unit seems to be garbage.
Now I can hook up the power wire but when you turn the key on and the remote signal turns the amp on it does the same thing (sparks and smoke).
