So, yeah, went to the shootout. Got there alright everything was going well. Minor crack in the pile of shit exhaust manifold once again but i figured i would race anyways...
Well I made one pass at 13.4 @ 108 or something and realized that boost was hitting max of 21 and airflow maxed at 41 and dropped to low 30's... Something was definately wrong. Well, the manifold crack was much larger, so I decided not to run anymore as the car would not run at its full potential anyways. Still not sure why airflow went down from 51 to 40 with the boost controller at the same position, but I guess that's now the least of my worries...
On the way home the crack gets bigger, actually it was cracked three quarters of the way around the collector, essentially the turbo was about to fall off. So I decided to use some gas station band clamps to try to hold it in place and possibly limp home. Good news: I made it back, bad news: see this website:
http://www.msnusers.com/totalledcar/shoebo...box.msnw?Page=3
Yes the only thing holding the turbo to the remaining pieces of manifold are the gas station band clamps! What a piece of shit, the wastegate fell off a few miles from my house, thank god for the short route intercooler piping that caught it!
NOTE ~ This is not a QPR product and they are in no way affiliated with this huge pile of crap
Also on the way home my crank shaft position sensor took a dump, good thing i wired my 1G CAS to send out the signal in order to initially time the car, what are the odds of that? Down side to this scenario: What is a possible conclusion that can be drawn from poor clutch pressure and a faulty crank position sensor? Well that answer is yet to be determined
What a fucking weekend...I'm never leaving MN again, I should have learned my lesson the first time, if you aren't sure what I am reffering to see the above website page number 2!

Glad to see you and your car made it back generally in one piece. Hopefully the clutch and sensor problems are easily repairable.

wow - that manifold looks like my old Archer SS manifold. - lasted all of 1 month and only about 400 miles.
It wasn't externally gated but the turbo fell off completely, was kind of good to watch a very nice "Blue" Flame shooting down from the manifold into the turbo.
(was about 2" gap all the way around)
Anyways hope the motors fine. if it's crank walk what are your plans?

I think somehow I ended up with this old POS. It's welded back together and now sits in my garage as an ornament.
It sounds like the Shootout was a bust for most people this year which is pretty crappy. But it's good to know everyone actually made it back.

Somehow it ended up in Iowa I was told and then given to Jacek as two pieces-just like the one above. He then welded it back together and gave it to me. It now sits in the garage as a conversation piece (or just junk that hasn't been thrown out yet).

Brian you gave it to me when I was up there. Then Jacek said he wanted to try to weld it so I gave it to him when I was in Decorah one weekend. Then I take it he gave it to Jed. So it's been from Archer to Burnsville to Ames to Decorah to Winona. :bounce:

Damn, that sucks Chris. Sorry!! I have felt your pain, but at least I got 11k miles out of mine before it was really done. Crazy how mine did it coming back from the SO too. The SO must be bad luck for crankwalk!

The crank pulley moves in and out about 1/4 inch maybe more maybe less, but it is definately moving farther than it should. I am taking it out soon to be sure, and Mike has some ideas that we are tossing around as to how to remedy the problem...I will keep you guys updated.

Mike wants to try some H rated bearings which are much stronger and made of better material... We won't know anything until we get in there and see what caused the problem...
