Replacing My Interior

my car:
1998 Chrysler Sebring LXI
completely stock w/ infinity system

ok, this is pretty much a newbie question but i think you guys would know since looking at some peoples interior pictures here (on the 2g's) that there all very nice and look very simliar to my chrysler sebring interior set up.

i'd like to know how to change the face plate on my interior to a differnt color, mine currently is just annoying and ugly looking (not to mention that it pops out all the time) if your curious to what the inside looks like of my car, its pretty much this woody shiny stuff

^as you can see its not that attrative as opposed to Jin's inside or SlowWhites...






I'd like to make my sebring look kinda like that or like this other sebring i found


can anybody give me some helpful info on how i can change it? or advice on what to do? i'd also like to know how to change the backround around by the gauges

Paint the panels whatever color you choose with spray paint and get glow gauges or the backing from some online shop... try http://www.procarparts.com

It may be a tough time to paint the wood paneling. So go and find yourself another Sebring or so with like plastic. I think the gloss on the wood would make it too difficult. Otherwise, for some pieces, you can just use a few off of a 2g.

Since the wood trim is glossy, just scuff it up with some 600-grit sand paper. That most likely is plastic anyway... I doubt they'd put real wood like that in a Sebring.

Most definately the wood paneling will paint like plastic after a little roughing up. Although don't run you wires all half asses like the second pic. Thats a fire hazzard. Also it isn't really that expensive to bring you car into an apolstery shop and have your doors, carpet, seats redone.

My wires arent all half ass. Thats the only way to get them through. Besides, i dont get how thats a fire hazard anyway. Its fine.

Sorry, didn't know it was your car. But they are running through a missing vent dash and looks like its getting squashed by the door when it is closed. Run it through the factory loom where it is protected. If it doesn't fit add a second loom of your own. Anywhere a wire is exposed like that it runs the risk of being poinched and grounded out. Grounded wires cause fires. If those are speaker wires and they pinch out you can have problem with your amp. Like it not working anymore.

There is another way. Its just is little more time consuming.

There is a shop in St. Paul, they would redo your whole car, ive seen it done to a couple of Civics. Im talking about the whole interior, you just pick the color(s) you want and everything is leather. I talk to one of the guys and he said he spent about $1000.00, I think it was kinda spendy but it turned out great. talk to propulshun performance on university they know where to direct you, if you dont care how much your spending. :goodluck:

yeah, its not wood, its plastic wood looking though, sorry.

But it'll still be really slippery and shit. So your gonna wanna sand that down or so before you paint it. I figured it wasnt real wood. It's not a 60k Navi or Escalade, lol. But yeah, sand it down, you'll be ok.

i don't want to be a dick...... just be sure you don't half ass this... if you do it, do it right! i bought my car and the ass painted the whole interior white and it was flaking off.... first thing i did was go to the scrap yard and buy a new interior........

Not sure if many of you have painted plastic before but it is hard to stick to. Sand every panel down good. If you are using spray paint, get Krylon Fusion. It is meant for plastics. Doesn't always work though if you do not sand it enough though. You also may want to use a primer depending on how good you sand it.

BTW, the blue behind the gauges is a bezel you would most likely have to buy.

Just a note the interior on a 2g and a sebring are exactly the same peices, same as the doors. Guages are obviously different becuase of the different abilities (power) of your car. Parts for sale for a 2g would be the same. More later. :goodluck: More time spent is always worth it in the end.

Also the interior's are exactly the same as the DSM's other then the Center console has a slightly different angle to it otherwise the rest is the same (I should know i owned a Black 1998 LXI)

My personal best paint I've used on my DSM is the OEM PPG Paint from Lowell's.


it's the same paint you do you exterior with. I sprayed my doors just to see how well it would hold up and it's hands down the best restistant paint I've used to date.
