being a united states citizen but not swearing alegience

What are your thoughts about being allowed to be a us citizen but not having to swear allegiance to it?

A while back I got into a debate on Facebook with a guy who turned out to be from burnsville, mn. About how legally you dont have to pledge allegiance to the united states but still be allowed to be a citizen.

I didnt do home work on it but in short what he said was.
1943 the Jehovah witnesses filed suit saying its against there religion to swear allegiance to the united states, supreme court ruled that it was illegal for them not to. However they refused to swear anyways and violence broke out over the matter and to stop the violence against the Jehovah witnesses, that ruling was over turned.
Which set the precedence for all rulings going forward. And to this day you do not have to pledge allegiance to the united states to be a citizen.

My debate wasnt about them? but about people who dont put america first over the country left. But when he posted this I had no idea it wasnt required, as I grew up saying the pledge every morning at school
