My friend is looking at a 96 gs-t with 130k. I plan on checking the t-belt, compression, and shaft play. Probly going with him on monday to check it over. We test drove it yesterday. Upon initial startup, it killed. Then it started fine. I noticed the line from the breather to the intake wasn't connected. Could that have been why it killed? What else should I check?

Take a ACT 2600 or 2900 with you and hold it up next to the engine compartment. Make sure to listen for a deep clunking sort of noise coming from the crankshaft. If the engine is on it's way to crankwalk, that should scare it the rest of the way :bounce:

For some reason I dont think that it will work well. I will try it with my 2600 though.

Check the endplay carefully on the crank. Those years were the worst for crank walk.

Wouldn't you just take the tolerance specs for crank endplay and compare those to the endplay numbers on the car you're looking at?

I call BS on this cause it's like saying 1Gs don't walk. It's complete hear say on the motor, the owner and what they do to the car. Sure there may be more 95/96 that have walked, but let snot put down the fact that they have had more years to build up "walk stats" than the 97-99s. Don't let the walking fact decide the car purchase as you can always fix/ replce the motor.

If you are really worried about it, I can come check it out with you for a small fee. It isn't hard to check for crankwalk, but you do need the right tools. Let me know via PM if you are interested. We can of course check into the rest of the car as well pretty intensly if you like. If you friend is serious about purchasing it, then it is money and time well spent to avoid the possible headaches etc in the future.
