Anyone good with broken bolt removal?

My lower control arm bolt snapped when I tried removed the control arm. It's the end that connects to the front subframe. I do not want to attempt the job to remove it because I have very little experience and do not have the right tools. I'm willing to pay someone to come over and remove it. If you can help, shoot me a PM. Thanks!

Re: Anyone good with broken bolt removal?

Could you post a picture for us of what the broken bolt looks like? Clean break, how much is sticking out, etc.

Re: Anyone good with broken bolt removal?

Your pretty much fuk'd, that's why you have to hit everything with penetrating oil and hit it a few times and if that doesen't work hit it with a torch for a few minutes. I would say use a small drill bit and try to cut the bolt out without hitting the threads, worst case senario you have to put a nut on the end of the bolt, but it sucks to be your right now. Are you keeping the control arm? You could sawsall the bolt by the bushging and get the arm off or cut the arm and get it off and then work the stub out.
I'm gonna go with the sarah palin spread eagle and say drill it out and use a helicoil or nut.

^ And of all of that, cutting the arm is still the only SURE way to get it out.

Re: Anyone good with broken bolt removal?

Another trick if any of the bolt is exposed is to weld a nut on the end of it.

The heat from welding helps free up the stuck bolt and you have a nice head on it afterwards to remove it

Re: Anyone good with broken bolt removal?

Sorry I've been way to busy to be able to get a picture. The lower control arm has 2 bolts connected to the subframe. 1 of them broke and I was able to take off the other bolt. But the arm slid right off so now I can see the broken bolt stuck in the subframe. It has about half an inch I'd say sticking out. The head of the bolt just broke off.

Re: Anyone good with broken bolt removal?

Get someone with a welder, weld a huge nut on it, make sure the heat penetrates into up into the threads.

Removal - work the bolt in and out, slowly. It will come out.

If you have a 220 outlet I or someone else could bring a welder to you.

Again, pictures would help

Re: Anyone good with broken bolt removal?

Just get a vice grip and heat the bolt up at the threads with a butane torch till it starts smoking and turn it out then.

Re: Anyone good with broken bolt removal?

I believe I had this exact issue a year ago on my old Talon I sold to CornFed 2.4.

I ended up buying a couple different drill bits, drill it out in stages. Then chased/tapped the threads and was able to use a new bolt from mitsu. Got lucky.

Re: Anyone good with broken bolt removal?

Torch and a stud remover or Vice grips. Or weld a nut on that batch
