Looking to get a water softener, any advice/tips?
I'm looking to get a water softener for our place, I am really tired of the hard water ruining our nice cookware and stuff.
I'm thinking something like this:

TIA

We are looking to putting a water softener in are place, But the one thing that worries me is washing the car with the salt thats put into the water softener, Will it rust your car if washed with the water softener system?

Not sure if this is relevent, but we have a water softener and all of our outside hoses and such still use the non-softened water.
Maybe you can just hook it up different ways?

I would definetly get the brand WaterBoss. I got mine at menards and it is small/short and compact and is cheaper then the one you listed. One of the best purchases i have made for my house so far.

^Cool. I usually go to Menards, but their website blows.
Anyone know about installing one of these?

You don't want to hook the outside spigot to the watersoftner. The water from the watersoftner is not good for the grass or plants.
The cold water in the kitchen sinks does not usually run through the water softener.

Re: Looking to get a water softener, any advice/tips?
I installed the Waterboss mentioned above in my house. I've had a lot of problems with it and am seriously considering the easywater system that uses an electrical process to change the water structure. It's easy to install, although I had my house built and had a water softener loop installed, so it was pretty simple.

What problems have you had with it Goat Blower? Mine has been perfect with no issues at all.

Re: Looking to get a water softener, any advice/tips?
Well, I went through all the settings multiple times, and after a day or two, the water would get hard again. It was so bad that we had to replace our dishwasher when it was three years old. Granted we figured out that the plumber had hooked it up wrong and it was attached to the cold water line, which isn't treated. Even then, it just hasn't worked that well, and I'm tired of replacing the salt all the time. Easywater is not cheap, but I can't find anything bad about it, and you don't have to replace the salt. I can also change my outside faucets to be treated then as well, so I can wash my car without spots. All in all, it should work for most people, it just didn't work very well in ours.

Re: Looking to get a water softener, any advice/tips?
Oh thats odd. I think you can have a water test done and then contact water boss for the best settings if maybe something is being missed.

I'm gonna have home depot come and do a free water analysis before I pick one up, we have heard there is probably a high content of rust in our water.

Re: Looking to get a water softener, any advice/tips?
I installed one of these a few months back:
http://www.systemsaver.com/morton-we...-softener.html
Works on demand. Has been doing great so far. $359.00 right now at Menard's.
Also grab the Morton Water Heater Install Kit and the installation will be a breeze.
Be very generous with the teflon tape on all threaded pipe connections or they WILL leak.
The city told me the water hardness level so I didn't bother testing it.
