Re: Crazy psunami damage from quake in japan

The closest thing any of us have gotten to something like this is localized flooding and tornadoes. We'd be shell shocked if something this massive happened here.

Hey meow, some of us have ventured well outside MN and seen more than that...

100mph typhoon (hurricane) winds on a tiny japanese island, wearing a trash bag rain suit and chem goggles is a memory of mine that comes to mind We'd see something like 3 typhoons / year on that island. Thing is the cities are built for it, so damage was minimal.

Re: Crazy psunami damage from quake in japan

Here's some crazy shit, read this:

http://www.vancouversun.com/news/Jap...617/story.html

* 100+ aftershocks have rated 5.0 magnitude or more in Japan since the initial shake.

* Earth's axis has reportedly shifted ten inches as a result of the quake, and Japan's coast is said to have permanently shifted 2.4 metres.

* The quake was 900 times stronger than the quake that hammered San Francisco in 1989.

My Jack Russel Terrier woke me up around the same time this happened early this morning. He started run around and barking at nothing, then came and sat next to me with his ear at attention. I didn't know what was up until I heard the morning news hours later. I'm in Louisiana and he picks up on it. Animals are amazing with the things they can sense.

Tokyo Tower stood up pretty well, but the antenna on top didn't fair the same: http://www.jiji.com/jc/d4?d=d4_topic...00-jlp10575297

There's apparently video from the lower observation deck as well.

Why are there still so many people wearing face masks. Is SARS still an issue over there?

Not as large as it use to. But the reason they are wearing face masks is you now have sewage, dead biddies and other chemicals from plants and garages all mixing with the ocean water. I was actually listening to a "Green" program a while back and they brought up a good point. People like us, who work on cars and have plenty of chemicals around, can add lots of pollution after a natural event. All those chemicals in your garage, break clean, extra oil for the next change, paint and other cleaning chemicals all get massively dumped after an event like this. Soiling ground water shortly after an even making it hazardous to drink.

Not to mention Japan is a developed country with plenty of business that use large amounts of chemicals for production. That country will be in trouble for some time.

My thoughts exactly regarding the future of the company. I cannot fathom the cost and time it will take to restore that country to where it was on say the Tuesday before the quake.

Yeah, that's really sad, there's just no way to prepare for something like that, no warning and in the middle of the night. Prayers out to all that are affected.
