Wait till the lakes are solidly frozen up. Things get fun then. Last year a couple people got together and arranged a lake autocross kind of thing.

Re: First 1g awd parking lot donuts

They are working on getting a rallycross school together for mid-december if you want to really have some fun drifting in the snow (legally) and learn some techniques on better car control in the snow. It will be in a snow covered field in Cannon Falls. There will be a classroom portion of it the night before where you can ask questions and learn how to control your car sideways. Thne the next day you get to go out and apply what you learned the night before! If you go to the video section and look at the 2003 March rallycross video, it will be similar to that. That was back when I had the red 93 TSi and Allan had the black and silver 91 TSi. It's alot of fun! If you're interested, let me know and I'll get you some more details about it as they come out.

AWD donuts rule!! Spinning on the center axis of the car is amazing!

I take out a different kind of 1g when it snows. The funny thing is, I park the awd CR-V and hop in this to have fun. Mid-engine, RWD with snow tires is AWESOME!!!

Re: First 1g awd parking lot donuts

As long as it can pass tech inspection. If you have a snell rated helmet M95 or better, bring that as well.

Snow tires allow for better control. It's all about controlling a car on unpaved surfaces, not just sliding all over the place. I found last night to be a mix of good traction and all out sliding. I was drifting a few of the roads out behind our apartments. Industrial area at about 8pm= no traffic. One guy was watching me go up and down the road a few times while his car was warming up. I think he was enjoying the show. At least this time I never spun out!!

Last night was amazing for sliding.

There were a couple points where I was more sideways than intended, still WOT, and still in complete control of the car. This car as it sits would be an awesome rallyx car if I could bring myself to abuse it that much.

Re: First 1g awd parking lot donuts

Now that I have snow tires on the mr2 and no swaybars (front or rear) it is very controllable. It has now become very predictable. It turns better than it ever did before. I do have to say that racing rallyx has definitely made me react more automatically when the car starts to slip. I find myself being able to get out of bad situations a lot easier now. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to learn how to push their car close to the limits and bring it right back under control again without endangering themselves or other people.

Re: First 1g awd parking lot donuts

here is the official word at this point from the rallycross chairman:

"Everyone, I'm sorry to say that I need to hold off on the school. The course conditions are just too rough and people would be breaking suspensions left and right.

I'm going to stay in communication with the landowner and we're going to try for Jan or Feb."

I'll try to keep you guys up to date as to what's going on with it. There is a thread on MNSubaru about it in the events section. Dave (Scuba Steve on MNSubaru) is the rallycross chairman.

Re: First 1g awd parking lot donuts

I know of a lake that gets plowed, I took swifty out on it last year and he didn't poop too much. It's about a 3 minute course with a straight that I could get my Evo doing about 70-80MPH on with a tight left hand corner at the end. Needless to say you have to have balls and skill to get a good time on it.

Donuts are for kids. Try drifting your awd on pavement....

We went last year down to LaCrosse Wi for a couple timed events on the ice. It was a lot of fun and like Autox, teaches you so many things about your vehicle.

That little red BMW on General Altimax Arctics were faster than my buddy's 1g we were both driving. Tires ARE everything.
