Ojibwe Forests Rally 2010

Ojibwe is still going on this year! As some of you know, Ojibwe lost it's national status for 2010 when Rally America cut the championship from 9 to 6 events (the last 3 events on the schedule where dropped). BUT, it is continuing on as 2 regional rallies.

August 20th is Paul Bunyan's Ride
August 21st is Headwaters

Both are coefficient 3 rallies. The rally headquarters will be the Holiday Inn in Bemidji, MN.

If you would like to come up to volunteer (the best way to see the rally cars on stage) please sign-up here http://www.rallymasterpro.com/workers/

There will be limited spectating and information will be available at parc expose Friday afternoon at the Northwest Technical College

competitor registration is now open through http://rally-america.com/index.php

Keep checking back at http://rally-america.com/events/2010/OBJIWE/ or http://www.ojibweforestrally.com/ for more information! (detailed schedule should be posted soon)

If you are planning on coming make your arrangements asap as the hotels are filling up or full already! Come out and see some of the best regional teams in competition!

Re: Ojibwe Forests Rally 2010

You could always go up and help out at the Nemadji Rally in Duquette next weekend (July 31st). Shorter drive and no hotel stay. You have to work the event to see it though. No spectator locations.

Create a New Worker account and then it should give you a list of the upcoming rallies. Click on the register tab for Nemadji III. It is the last one this year in that area. Course Marshalling is the easiest, but starts and finishes can be fun too. You get a chance to talk to the competitors a little bit before and after they fly down the stages.

It's a very laid back atmosphere at these rallies.

This is a post with a little more info on it.
http://www.specialstage.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=41190

Hope you can come out and have some fun. I'll be in the silver CR-V chasing the competitors out of the woods.

Is the cut of 9 down to 6 here to stay? Seems kind of a steep cut in the number of events.

it is a big step down but something that many national competitors wanted. It is financially draining to try and do 9 events. I did 3 out of the 6 this year (plus 5 regional only rallies) and could have done all if the tows to the other 3 didn't take me out of work for so long. the canadian championship is only 6 events as well

why not just change the scoring, so that the rallies can still exist, but you're only scored for 6?

Re: Ojibwe Forests Rally 2010

6 of 9 doesn't make it any cheaper if you want to stay competitive (unless you straight up win the only 6 you do). Those that have enough money to do all the events will do them to try and get the best 6 combo, if you can't afford to do that, having more events doesn't help at all, just gives the big budget guys a better chance.

6 events, count em all - I like the current format. it sucks losing some rallies from the schedule but they'll POR in regional format. Some may even come back as nationals as the schedule changes.

Re: Ojibwe Forests Rally 2010

Tell that to Ken Block since he has yet to finish an Ojibwe for the last 2-3 years. He's totalled 2 cars out in the last 2 events. I can't help but chuckle a little inside when we come upon his car all twisted up on the side of the stage road (at least after we have made sure he and Alex are ok). I still have parts of his car in my CR-V.

Money will only carry you so far, you need talent to finish it out.

This. I always get a kick out of Duplessis, Greenhouse and even Eixenberger whipping the tar out of much more financed teams, time and time again, in old, low powered econo boxes. But then again, experience does have a financial price tag...

The problem is rally is very cost prohibitive. To just attend a regional co-efficient 2 our team would be looking at a minimum of $2000 for entry fees, tires, fuel for support vehicles, crew (lodging, meals, transportation) parts and maintenance, etc... And I guarantee you, we operate on a lower budget than a lot of regional teams. Not having that level of disposable income each and every month, we have to pick and choose which rallies we are going to enter. (sorry Carl, we chose to skip OFR in favor of doing NT3, and LSPR)

Because there is really no economic structure to support any but the very top drivers here in the States, most of the competitors finance themselves mostly out of pocket. At a hobbyist level, that's fine, you're after the experience and not so much the points. But if RA wants to attract more serious drivers and a greater fan base to grow the sport upon, they have to cater to the 90% to gain some traction. Sports thrive on competition. To create a better competitive base, the sport needs to be more accessible to a greater number of people.

Re: Ojibwe Forests Rally 2010

Which car are you driving at NT3? We better not see you except in service and at the starts and finishes (we'll be driving the med sweep CR-V again for this one).

Ojibwe is uber affordable this year. Entry fees are much cheaper than when we were a national. I suppose it would be a lot easier with some good sponsors too.

Paul, I hope you and Derek can at least come out and volunteer at OFR.

OFR is still huge value considering it is 6 coefficients. skip the hotel and go camping! (that's the only way we could afford STPR)

We'll be out there in the Tiburon. Don't worry though, apparently we are not fast enough to end up in the woods

I agree, it's a bargain. Plus I was really looking forward to notes. No, the car build this year went well over double our anticipated budget, and unfortunately the mortgage has to take priority (weak).

I know. RAWR! Things are just that tight right now. Are you guys going to be camping up there for this event? I might be interested in tagging along for the hell of it.

Re: Ojibwe Forests Rally 2010

I know how it goes with small budgets. Being that we have a little one on the way this January, I have decided to not rallycross or work any of the rallys next year possibly 2 years.

Can't wait for saturday!! If you can't run OFR, it would be great to have you come up and volunteer. I know they are short staffed the way it is and any extra people would be a great help. We'll be doing bannering and med sweep up there too.

Re: Ojibwe Forests Rally 2010

There's about half of the field with 2wd cars!! Mostly Group2 entries!! This should be a good event. We already have 25 entries.

Paul, sorry about the car at Nemadji. We were sad to see it on the side of the road, but very glad to see that it was a mechanical and not a serious off. Sucks the engine had to go down in flames. But now it gives you an excuse to go bigger!! And you got to see some of the rally from your own "marshal" point. It was great of the 510 crew to let you borrow their trailer to tow the car back to the garage. That's the thing I love about rally. The people involved are all willing to help at a moments notice. Hopefully we'll see you up at Ojibwe in some capacity. Sorry we didn't get a chance to talk much at Nemadji (other than me grabbing your scorecard and taking off).
