Alltel to Verizon

Okay, so I am a Verizon customer and bought an HTC Touch Pro from some guy who lives in my building. I knew Alltel was bought up by VzW, but wasn't sure if they would accept their phones. I figured they would, but boy was I wrong.

Verizon will NOT accept any Alltel phone unless you had an existing Alltel plan. Pretty ghey though.

I've read online and there are ways to make them work. I for one do not have the know-how to do so. I'm wondering if any of you guys do. I'd pay you a litte, or pay for some beers afterwards (assuming you're of age lawl).

Thanks guys!

I've been rocking my iPhone on T-mobile for close to 2 years now....always buy a phone with a SIM card, therefore the phone companies have no say in what you can and can't use. Just swap the SIM!

Check and see if the ESN number on the back of the alltell phone has the same amount of numbers that your verizon phone had.

Either the hex or dec one will work as long as there the same amount of numbers..

Im in the process of trying to figure out how to make Verizon phones work on the Straight talk network, Its alot trickier then i thought but i know its do-able.

They asked for the HEX MEID, and an error message comes up on their side that says cannot activate due to marketing restrictions (Essentially saying they're gonna plow their foot up my ass and make me buy a Verizon phone). But I've read numerous people successfully reprogramming their Alltel phones for the VzW network.

For that reason I'm thinking about going to T-Mobile and getting a unlocked and jailbroken iphone. But people are asking for $300+ on craigslist. I can get a refurbished one on att's website but I have to get a plan...Which I'm iffy about. Before tax and all the other charges you get I'm looking at $100+/month.

I just need to find a few thousand people to rent out towers from a carrier and start my own wireless company. lol

Re: Alltel to Verizon

Verizon/Alltell = CDMA
-->No SIM card to swap.
AT&T & TMobile = GSM
-->SIM card.

I think all carriers should be GSM...This is too much of hassle.

Re: Alltel to Verizon

in regards to the iphone, I worked for apple for a year and a half as iPhone Tier 2, I know quite a bit about getting them to run on T-Mobile.

Now this is against the rules, but it is completely doable:

The best bet is to get a completely smashed iphone for $50 send it into apple, they charge $200 for all repairs. Any iPhone, anything wrong with it $200. (They give you a new one, but they will say it was "repaired")

give it to me and ill unlock it for free, I have a family plan and i have 3 iphones working flawlessly on Tmobile, I couldnt be happier.

Yes, the droid and other smart phones are pretty good, but I need a GSM phone, and my opinion is that the iPhone is far superior to any and all competition.

Good luck with your alltell phones...

Re: Alltel to Verizon

^^^word
I love my unlocked iPhone. It's been my best phone by far. I'm on a family plan as well, and it doesn't cost me much either. I have a 2g iPhone, that took a swim in long lake with me, been in a car accident, and has been dropped idk how many times. I'll use it, until it doesn't turn on lol.

Btw iceminion: my iPhone is in desperate need of an update, if I update to the newest OS, am I gonna hve to get it jailbroken and unlocked again?

Re: Alltel to Verizon

Well I ended up buying a cheap Verizon phone for now. I gotta wait until my contract runs up, then it's time to buy a broken iphone, and pay a visit to iceminion!
