done drivin for a while, broken foot

Ok so sometime yesterday on new years i managed to break my foot. it all started when i decided to run, literally run, down to my room to grab something that i can't even remember.

i was running down the stairs and about 3 or 4 steps to the bottom slipped, like an idiot, and landed on the side of my foot. i had heard a very loud popping noise as i landed and figured it wasn't good.

i decided to go into the e.r. after i had a golfball size bumb comming out of my foot. i had gotten some x-rays and later found out i broke my 5th meditarcel, the long pinkie toe bone, in my left foot.

they told me i won't be able to snowboard for at least 6 weeks, and most likely wont be able to drive either since it's my clutching foot. FML

yeah, i guess. the ironic part of it all is that about an hour before this happened i had gotten new snowboard boots for an early bday present. i guess i atleast will be going out to eat on the 4th.

Re: done drivin for a while, broken foot

I've got a few friends that have broken the 5th metatorsil. It is NOT fun. You will probably permanently have a screw or some piece of metal in your foot. It will be almost a year before you will feel at 100% running and such. I've rolled my ankle and heard it pop a few times. Ankles are tough, and slow to recover. They usually aren't the same afterwards. If you're young, you should be fine though.

Re: done drivin for a while, broken foot

I broke my left ankle and it still pops and cracks when I stretch it, and I broke it 8 years ago. Basketball, football, and baseball all didn't help I guess. My bro took forever to heal after his broken foot, can't recall which bone it was.

i'd probably try it if there wasn't glare ice all down my street.

and yeah from what i've been told it's guna take a while. it's my first broken bone so who knows. im surprised i haven't before from skateing and snowboarding, only a really severe concussion. oh well tho, i guess i'll have to live with taking the pain killers for a while.

oh yeah and im debating weather or not to take one of my oxycodone they gave me before my family comes over cause of the pain, not sure tho...

Re: done drivin for a while, broken foot

if you're even debating it... you probably don't need it. I only take that stuff when there is no debate, the pain is so bad I need relief.

Re: done drivin for a while, broken foot

Ice it. That will help your foot more than anything right now. Are you walking on it?! I'd say you need to stay off it, rest it, and potentially put a compression wrap around it.

I just get hurt a lot. One of these days I'll quit playing semi-serious sports.
