Re: Bowled a 278!
Nice! I worked at a bowling alley and was on the varsity bowling team in high school lol...can't imagine all the nerdy kids there, and half the time I was hungover lol. I averaged 220 back in the day, and I only ever had a high of 268...so ya beat me!

Re: Bowled a 278!
I guess I saw this a little late, but congratz. I used to bowl quite a bit until about 2 years ago when I decided to quit. I did some tournaments, and bowled in a few scratch leagues. I have had 3 or 4 300s in league and used to average in the 220s as well. I still liked bowling when I quit, but switched jobs and got sick of how competitive some people were. I was in the sctratch league, but was primarily in it for fun as opposed to winning the league... I haven't picked up a ball since.

Re: Bowled a 278!
I bowled a 236 a few weeks ago at my kids birthday party, that was the best game I have ever had, I use a two fingered hook so I am not super consistant, but I can get on good runs if the lanes are nice and slippery.

Re: Bowled a 278!
At my peak I was bowling 3 nights a week and a traveling league every other Saturday. Never in my life averaged over 195 or so, I've rolled 11 in a row twice (first frame owned me, got a 279 and 279) and have only one or two sanctioned 700 series in my name. I blame it all on the fact that I was always using 5+ year old equipment. New bowling balls are insanely forgiving and consistent, GsXtUrBo98 is proof of that.

Keep bowling and the numbers will continue to go up. I have had a few sanctioned 300s and higher 700s, but I never quite got the sanctioned 800. That was the next target for me before I quit. I have done it a couple times on fresh lanes in practice, but never did it in league.
The equipment you use and the alley you bowl it can make a big difference. My 220 average was at Texa Tonka in St. Louis Park which I would consider one of the easier alleys I have bowled at. At times, I could have 4 boards or so of room and still pound the pocket. I bowled in a few leagues with the "sport shot" and didn't average much more than 190 (at the same time I was averaging 220). I was never at the top of the curve with the equipment either as it can be expensive. I would buy the used balls at the pro shop to get a decent ball at half the price.

Re: Bowled a 278!
Well I bowled a 267 last night! First game I was hammered and got a 160, then after food and a lot of water I bowled a 220 and then my 267. Was a 8 spare, 9 open, then 11 in a row. I average 200 at these lanes. I'm bowling with the new storm pearl nano.

Re: Bowled a 278!
Nice dude!
I love to bowl my self, I just started getting back into it.
I go every Tuesday nights with a group of friends to the City Limit lanes in Rosemount off of highway 3.
I usually bowl between 150 and 220, but, I can do that with both hands.
I really need to invest in a ball, I usually use a 16 lb house ball, and those aren't as easy to get a good spin on...

Re: Bowled a 278!
Spinning house balls just makes it hard to keep an actual hook ball from jumping to the next lane if you can relate. I bowl every Sunday on leagues but switch off Egbert other with 2 different places.

Re: Bowled a 278!
Yea, I hear ya!
I've maybe gone bowling about 20 times in my life, so I'm far from someone who does / has bowled a lot.
I absolutely love it though, that is why I posted the feeler thread about bowling at Cedarvale in Eagan, so far, no interest though.
I really think I have the potential to bowl 200+ every game with a non-house ball and some more practice.
Being ambidextrous helps me a ton when it comes to picking up spares. I still really haven't figured out which hand is my better hand... So I'm usually switching what one I use between games, it helps keep my stamina up if I'm playing a lot of games in a row though...

Re: Bowled a 278!
If you league bowl they won't let you switch hands
