TV/Cable question

My friend has a 52" projection TV which he broke the cable jack off while moving it. He asked me a if there was a way he could still hookup cable and I told him to try running cable--->vcr, vcr AV cables--->TV.

He did this and now he only gets channels 2-13 or so...

Any ideas? Tried the auto program feature but it cannot recognize any channels.

A better idea than a vcr?

Thanks,
John

Re: TV/Cable question

The VCR probably isn't setup right, or maybe it's really old and can't access channels > 13, lol.

That always sucks having to use the VCR remote to change the TV channels, had the same situation back in college.

Best solution is get digital cable and the cable box will have AV out to the TV, but that costs more money each month.

Re: TV/Cable question

yea, if I didn't have a financial interest in him I would tell him to buy another TV. He is renting one of my houses right now and I like to try and make sure he has money at the end month.

The VCR is no older than the rest of them still in circulation. Not sure how to set it up differently???

Re: TV/Cable question

The VCR needs to be setup for the cable mode, it's probably on antenna or something.

Or he can call around to repair men to fix the jack for him.

Re: TV/Cable question

I will check the VCR again for him and see if there is a cable mode.

We started taking the back of the TV apart and it wasn't a small part that would need to be replaced. Looked like it would be hard to find. I think we are in the throw-away years of TVs. Not that economical to fix them anymore. His is only 2-3 years old and there has to be a way to get this to work.

Re: TV/Cable question

Tell him to rent a cable box for $5- a month. AFAIK, all cable boxes these days have a/v out.

It would probably cast him more than the TV is worth to get the antenna jack fixed. $60 a year for a cable box rental is cheap.

VCR? What is that? LOL
Does he have a cable box? usually if you dont have a cable box you cant get the additional channels esp with digital cable. If he has a cable box, it should have AV outs that should go directly into the TV.

Not possible.

I will have him look around for a TV repair shop (if there still are any). I doubt he will want to lug it in though...

I didn't know you could get a cable box without getting digital cable. I will have him check on that also.

Thanks

I think I paid an extra $75.00 for the service call.
