First DSM
Hey im kinda new to DSM's im from cottage grove, so im usually around them all the time. I just picked up a 91' GSX with a 16g from one of my buddys for $500 as a project car. Only bad thing is its an auto, so the first thing i plan to do is auto-to-manual swap, lol so if anyone needs automatic parts i will be selling those shortly. I plan to make at least 350hp. Im probably going to be needing some advice as im doing the work so that would be greatly appreciated. My daily is a honda lol.

Re: First DSM
Neat. Best of luck with the swap, but it would be cheaper just to sell that one and buy a manual. Welcome to the board though

Re: First DSM
Welcome. Do the maintenance replacement items first. Then add a dash of power.

Re: First DSM
Welcome!
Consider finding a cheap manual car and just moving your go-fast parts over to that car. Will make things much less complicated.

Re: First DSM
The autos are great, but if you want 350whp your talking a lot of work, especially from a 500 project car. But hey when you get there i might take al your auto parts off your hands, how many miles are on your car and how well does it shift especially 1-2

Re: First DSM
Welcome to both the board, and DSMs! You've got a lot of fun, anger, hopelessness, and pure bliss ahead of you with that car.
I do agree with the suggestion to buy a manual car and swap the goodies over. But, whatever you do, I have to say don't stick with the auto. They take forever to shift, so half the time you're WOT, the clutch is disengaged. I've got a friend down in Ames with an auto 1gb with a small 16g running stock boost, and he cannot for the life of him outrun my stock 2g, despite the fact that he should be getting more power up top. It pulls hard, but that's only when it's not taking 2-3 seconds to shift.
You should come to OC tonight. details: http://www.mitsustyle.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17507

Re: First DSM
Eh don't be scared away by these Nancy's, if you have the time and the parts, auto-manual is mostly a bolt in thing. Have fun, learn a lot.

Re: First DSM
stick with the auto until you come up on a manual car... then swap over parts to manual car? unless your auto is super clean as in fingerlickin clean then go for the swap! but what ever you do? good luck and have some pain meds readily available!

Right, I know. I was responding to your post saying that there are some fast auto DSMs out there. Shep is fast as fuck, specifically, faster than any auto DSM. That's what I was trying to say with that.
I was giving supporting evidence as to why he should switch to a manual instead of staying auto if he wants to go "ZOMG SUPER FAZT!!!111"
If I say things that don't initially make sense, they're loaded with either sarcasm or implications. It's the job of the reader (you) to figure that shit out.

Re: First DSM
wow this was a lot larger response than i had expected
1) 153xxx on tranny, but my buddy who works at modern says it shifts very nicely. i cant really vouch considering i have never driven an auto dsm before.
2)I kinda wanted to do the swap to be unique? lol
3)I found a really great site with a step by step tutorial on auto to manual 1g DSM swaps. http://www.ecanfix.com/~mdhamilton/autotomanual.html
4)I will be trying to get rid of ALL of the auto parts, as well as ABS parts fairly cheaply if anyone wants them
5)If anyone is selling manual parts and can notify me somehow that would be great ie. trans(awd), pedals (break&clutch assy), master& slave cyls, shifter plates/assy's/cables etc.
6)I seem to remember hearing the auto rear end (23 spline?) will not work with manual trans??? Is this true?
7)Yes I know lancman and that whole group.
8)Thank you guys for all the support/advice/ideas, i feel more confident now
