My new Car/License plate Question

I just got back picking up a 95 Dodge Viper Convertible as a "fun" car. Here is a like to the info:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=160269656829

I am going to need a front plate put on this car and cannot figure out how to as I am not going to drill into the bumper to mount one. I found a bracket but it is held on by suction cups. I am not sure that I want my plate flying off on the freeway when the suction cups wear out... Any ideas?

I know I will get a lot of attention from the police in this car, I just don't want to give them a reason to pull me over.

Re: My new Car/License plate Question

I personally wouldn't even consider putting a front plate on that (I don't on any of my cars) but if you insist go to the Dodge dealership and buy a bracket for it.

If you have something to sell please do so in the classifieds section.

Re: My new Car/License plate Question

I don't want to but don't want to give them a reason to pull me over... I have been pulled over and ticketed for not having a plate a couple of times. I think I will be targeted more in this car. I know it looks better without but I don't care to pay for the no-plate look.

Re: My new Car/License plate Question

make a bracket... use the dsm bracket and drill it onto the bumper support!

Re: My new Car/License plate Question

One issue is that the latch for the hood is under there (right in the middle) and I have to have access to it. Maybe that is why there is the suction cup bracket. I don't really want the plate to be hanging off to the side (not centered) nor have to remove the bracket to pop the hood... If it was my old 1g, I would just bend some L brackets and call it a day. I want this car to look a bit cleaner, not like I half assed the brackets.

In my dsm's they were drilled into the front bumper as I wanted to have a clear path to my FMICs.

Re: My new Car/License plate Question

There is a pretty active Viper club here in Minnesota. You should ask over there:
http://www.minnesotavipers.com/home.php?color=blue

Someone must have a solution for this. I'm sure most Viper owners wouldn't drill into their bumpers.

But I agree with Kracka, I'd leave the plate off and take your chances.

later,
Curt

Re: My new Car/License plate Question

I think I am going to take my chances for a little bit atleast. I have been pulled over twice in the past for that. I believe the cops may have caught me speeding but didn't know how fast I was going.

I will have to check out the local Viper club, I was going to join a viper forum to ask some basic questions. I am 99% sure that they don't come with a front plate bracket nor that dodge even makes one. I looked at a couple of sites and couldn't find a stock one.

Re: My new Car/License plate Question

I had looked at a viper back when and there was a front plate braket that did come with the car.

Thanks. I was originally looking for a 03 cobra, c5 vette, or a nsx as I was looking to spend $20-$25K. Then my brother called about a local viper for sale for $25k and then I got the idea. I called that one and the tranny was blown, has a salvage title, and was painted with spray paint when fixed and needs a paint job. Needless to say I wasn't interested. I looked around ebay and found this. I didn't think I could find one near my price range but I found it.

The rims are definitly the first thing to go. The car sat most of it's life, only hving 8,xxx miles when I got it, and there are a few cracks in the rear tires. I am most likely going to be purchassing stock chrome rims and tires off a newer viper. The rear tires are 335s and will not be cheap. I don't plan on doing a bunch of burnouts so a decent set of used tires should last me a while.

I just wanted a car where I could have some fun and not have to worry about messing with making it faster. 400 hp and 464 tq in a rear drive should satisfy me for a while.

Re: My new Car/License plate Question

car looks good for the 1st gen. I would dump the rims off of it right a way. I would not put a plate on it. If you do zip tie the thing on to it

Re: My new Car/License plate Question

Technically it's not a convertible, it's a targa top with a bad weather soft top since the hard top doesn't fit anywhere in the car. But nice none the less. Apparently mine didn't have the front plate either, but I never got pulled over for it. That was a fun car.

I've always hated the way the soft tops fit, it looks just kinda... "tacked on". Nice car though, I'm sure you'll enjoy it

Re: My new Car/License plate Question

I don't really like the way they made the top, it is a PITA to remove and install. As soon as I got it back from Texas I took the top off and threw it in the trunk with the windows. I don't plan on putting it back on. I was told that the top didn't fit in the trunk but it does. It is in there now.

Nice pick but it seems like the top is sort of mess up.

When you have a nice car, you deal with the inadequacies.
