Do not idle for more than 3 minutes or else..
http://kstp.com/article/stories/S469008.shtml?cat=1
I know quite a few people with remote starts that will let their car idle so long it shuts off and then they remote start again. Just what we need, cops to sit for three minutes while they watch your vehicle idle.

Big deal, so don't let your car idle for rediculously long. This law is not going to hurt me.

Re: Do not idle for more than 3 minutes or else..
This law did nothing but waste taxpayer dollars by enacting it. Its going to be nearly impossible to enforce (unless cops sit and idle for 3+ minutes while watching a car thereby creating more problems that its solving) and nobody is going to care about abiding by it. They should try finding solutions to problems that will actually work and make a difference. How about getting all truckstops setup with the proper equipment so the truckers don't have to leave their engines idling for hours/overnight?

Re: Do not idle for more than 3 minutes or else..
Make sure you guys check your Greddy turbo timers, i know mine defualted to time based on some wierd factor which after like a 15 minute drive it was up to some shit like 7-9 minutes. I have mine now set at 30 seconds.

Re: Do not idle for more than 3 minutes or else..
So what are the cops going to do when they are downtown off 1st ave in the winter, and normally have there car idle for hours on end? O ya they don't care because they pay $2.xx a gallon.

According to the article, the law doesn't apply when you're in traffic.

Re: Do not idle for more than 3 minutes or else..
The Chris Baker radio show had a car idling on 1st ave for over 2 hours this morning. I had to stop listening when i got to work, anyone know if they ended up getting a ticket? They were going to call up the mayors office to try and buy some carbon credits for it too

Another retarded attempt to solve a problem that doesn't exist. I love Chris Baker BTW.

Re: Do not idle for more than 3 minutes or else..
Let's be serious for a second, idleing does waste about 30% of american fuel, if every yahoo out there didnt need their car to be 90degrees when they get into it in the winter maybe fuel would be a little cheaper now. And the old tale about it uses more fuel to start the engine then to idle is only true for 30seconds, so if you plan on idleing for more then 30seconds, turn the car off pleez. It's not as serious a problem here where are air quality is alot better then other places with mountains that trap smog, especially at elevation. It's a good law, just wait till they do start handing out tickets, I would give you a ticket if I could, I would also pull any dumb ass who smokes and throws their butt out the window over and give em a ticket which is another thing cops don't do enough of. How many forrest fires do you think are caused by cigarette butts? Now I am ranting

Re: Do not idle for more than 3 minutes or else..
^^how many forest fires are started like that when people throw them out on a paved road in a city?? not sure..
30% seems like a super high number for that, but im sure that numberincorperates when you are idling in traffic and all other situations like that.

Re: Do not idle for more than 3 minutes or else..
Sounds like 30% was pulled out of your ass.
Just like this law. They need to fix real problems, not petty ones to make it look like they care.

I don't understand what the point in idling for 3 minutes is anyways.

I idle for three minutes in the cold winter months. I get in, let my car idle for about three minutes to get the oil circulating and then take off.
None-the-less I think its a pretty trivial law thats going to be nearly impossible to enforce.

Re: Do not idle for more than 3 minutes or else..
Yeah, 30% of fuel used in idling? Maybe 3%, and then who cares. We have no problems with smog here, and keeping people from idling their cars will have zero effect on anything, environment, gas prices, children in Africa.

I let it idle for about 1-2 minutes. Atleast you don't let it warm up for 20 min so it's 95 degrees inside.
