what to do for my final pro-e project?

So me and a couple guys have to do a final project for my pro-e class. We need to measure out and redesign something that is made up of between 12 and 30ish parts. We thought about doing our project on an rc car, but we are kinda thinking the drivetrain might be a little tricky. I know there are a ton of engineers on here and a handful of people that have probably used pro-e. I was hoping I could get some input or ideas on what we might wanna do for our final project.

Create a block with the crank, pistons, rings, and the rest of the items.

A billet transfer case would be about that many parts.

I had to build a working clock for my solidworks final. It blew ass because you needed to play with gear ratios a lot to make it actually keep time.

So pretty much what im saying is DO NOT BUILD A CLOCK!

Design and build you're own turbo. Useing the right materials, lathes, and a foundry, it could be done.

He just has to design it...

How about one of those old ass steam engines, probably enough parts and relatively simple.

Does it need to be a static model or do you have to incorporate motion (i.e.- what Joe did with his clock)? On another note, what version is Pro/ENGINEER on these days? I got hooked on Solidworks about 2 years ago and haven't seen a Pro/E screen since.

Doesn't have to move. Some of the engines and stuff would be really cool to do, but it was recommended that you stay away from things with a lot of parts because they wont get finished or turn out very well. I was kinda hoping for something smaller too so we could have easy access to it. A motor would be kinda tough to haul around or store.

I totally thought about doing a clock, but as soon as I though about the gears I quickly changed my mind. I feel like I'll sit in some of my classes just looking around for what I could do and since there's a clock in like every room I feel like it's taunting me haha.

I've though about doing like a 14b or something, but my ta said turbo's would be super hard. idk though I'm keeping it on our "maybe" list.

Re: what to do for my final pro-e project?

look into the traxxas 1.5 pro or similar engines... they are rc engines and are a very simple 2 stroke design, that is if you want to design an engine. I would personally reverse engineer a simple carburator since you could find one with close to 12-15 parts

SOLIDWORKS FTMFW!

Im thinking you should go with something simple, like say just a block, or a head.. that would be easy as hell...

Yea this is my first semester with pro-e so something on the easier side would be nice. I've though about a head and cams before, maybe I should bring that up. I work in a group btw so it's not all up to me. Thanks for all the great advice guys keep it comin if you think of anything.

Another idea would be brake calipers or a clutch setup? Something simple...
