Hdmi
So is HDMI the best choice from going to a DH cable box to a HD TV for all audio and video? Is there any specifics about the cable or and brands I should look for since it appears these even vary at times?

Re: Hdmi
HDMI will be your best choice. I personally buy all my cables from eBay since they are so much cheaper than in the store and I've always had good luck with them (I generally buy the "premium" ones so they aren't the ultra-cheapies).

Re: Hdmi
Yeah, I was looking at newegg.com. Seem to be a lot cheaper than local stores.

Re: Hdmi
HDMI is only for video. you will still need to run something for audio.

Re: Hdmi
Incorrect, HDMI is digital audio and video in 1 cable.
Newegg would be my first choice.

Hopefully Rabe jumps in here and gives you some specific recommendations for an HDMI cable since he sets up home theaters for a living.

Re: Hdmi
lol, yeah, I'm looking forward to having the Cable and xBox hooked up via HDMI, I just wish my DVD/Surround system was also HDMI capable.
I'm just trying to set up everything in the house with the fewest amount of cords, the cleanest way possible.

Yea HDMI is the best, I have components for now to the new TV, looks good but I got two HDMI cables off ebay for the upconvert DVD player and the Hi def Cable TV.

Re: Hdmi
+2 or +3, whatever, HDMI is a digital cable format, so don't waste your $$ on 'Monster' cables or whatever from Best buy or similar. $80 is a waste for these. If you want a nice, solid, clean cable from a reputable company, I suggest apple.com. They have hdmi cables for about $20 for a nice length and they are great quality. Otherwise ebay, newegg, or similar will be fine, don't spend too much.

That's the crappy thing, I think you need to drop some cash for a new receiver if you want to go full hdmi. Depends on the setup though.
And yes, HDMI is the BEST way to get it done with the fewest amount of cords. It is so slick it is unreal, just power to the tv, power to the device, and then hdmi inbetween. So nice!

Re: Hdmi
If anyone have any links for new egg or any other places they'd suggest checking out that would be awesome.
ALso, anyone happen to have a cable tool I could borrow for a weekend? So I can match up the lenths of the cable correctly for a cleaner look. Otherwise I'll just pick one of these up as well.

Re: Hdmi
Monoprice.com for all your AV cabling needs. HDMI as said is digital audio and video in one cable. HDMI coming down the pipe is actually pretty cool too, with advance features such as the cable turning on and off equipment as needed.

Re: Hdmi
Yeah that would be correct, DVI does not have audio so it would make sense that outputting DVI into an HDMI input would not be giving audio.
But an HDMI output to HDMI input will indeed transmit digital audio.

Newegg link. Just make sure it's the length you need and I would also make sure it has some good reviews, Newegg shoppers are generally pretty good at dong reviews.

So true. I can't believe BestBuy can sell a gold plated USB cable because it's going to make the digital transfer sooo much better. Analog cables I can see why you sometimes want to spend extra money, but not so much on digital.

Re: Hdmi
Monoprice.com is da place, i ordered about $40 worth of cables that BBY would of charged me at least $500 for ...
HDMI in home theater transferes both audio and vide, it is a digital connection.
DVI is a digital connection, you can take a dvi and transfer it into hdmi input on the tv, adapter or cut wires and re-soder them .. whichever you like.. $2 for adapters ;p
I wouldn't bother with any of the "premium" cables when it comes to HDMI/DVI
either ther will be connection or there wont!
