4g GT from MNSC

Hey again,

I just recently showed up at the MNSC forums and was pointed over here as well. Hope to meet some local mitsu people and learn a lot. I'm pretty new to the whole car tuning thing in general so I have a long way to go.

I was at the cookout in August and hopefully I got a chance to meet some of you, if not hopefully next year or at a meet sometime in between.

I'll just post links to pics instead of reposting them unless otherwise requested.

Feel free to leave comments and suggestions on the car, I love feedback!

Re: 4g GT from MNSC

Yeah i'm going to make the dyno on the 20th for sure. I should probably be able to do the cruise as well. It's a bit short notice but I don't think I have anything going on, it will be a good excuse not to help my parents paint their house that weekend.

Re: 4g GT from MNSC

Thanks! I'll be posting some new pics sometime this weekend, I finally got the headlights and tails lights all done. I don't know why they made taking the headlights out so hard on this car.

Re: 4g GT from MNSC

Not sure where to post this question so i'll just keep from cluttering and use this thread.

I may have mentioned it somewhere else, but this is the first car i've purchased on my own and been able to proudly say is mine. I've driven literally beaters ready to die until now. So basically I never cared to learn about the internals of a car, never really cared about how the engine works.

So the last few months i've learned a TON of shit, but I still feel like a complete noob when it comes to real mechanics. What is the best way to learn? Read a few books? Take shit apart and put it back together? I know people go to school and get 2 and even 4 year degrees in this stuff, so how do I go about trying to learn?

I'm mainly interested in learning how to tune my car. Which is hard right now since there isn't much available for tuning tools. There is an AEM FI/C but it requires a lot of know how and is only still being worked on and getting figured out by some of the smarter guys. I've been reading up on it religiously but still don't really know how it all works.

Any kind of articles or books or whatever you guys can point me to would be sweet. Thanks in advance.

I would say just delve into the online forums, there's a few books you can read that I can recommend (mostly about turbocharging, but that's where the fun is anyways ), and also you can find great articles online on wikipedia and howstuffworks.com (I think?).

Just read read read, and never pretend to be a know-it-all, no one ever knows everything.

Good book:

Maximum Boost, Corky Bell (seriously!)

Great sites:

Re: 4g GT from MNSC

First off, fantastic work with the headlights, love them.

Second, I do not know what your upgrade plans are, but keep it simple on a nice new car like that, its the V6 so a turbo is going to be complicated and extremely expensive.

In my opinion, an intake and exhaust should be the only things you change.

P.S. if you want to do something extremely cool in my book, upgrade to AWD, I think you can do it with evo parts.

Re: 4g GT from MNSC

Yeah. That is a really good point. I wanted to kind of talk to LSE and see how much a turbo would run me, but i'm thinking the time and money is going to be much more then I expect.

I was thinking I/H/E, I already got the Intake and Exhaust in the mail! I'm not sure on headers yet, but we'll see.

I would LOVE love love love to do an AWD conversion. I have no idea what that would cost, but i'm pretty sure if I did it, I would be the first. I don't know what it takes to do one, i'll do some snooping around. I hoenstly didn't even think they were worth looking into, but hey why not I guess.

Oh also, thanks for the compliment on the headlights, they were a pain in the ass!
