6g73 swap into 2g Talon
Out of boredom while I was working in an oil change shop a few years ago I started looking at how similar the engine bays were between the Sebring/Avenger and 2g. I later brewed up the idea to swap the 2.5 v6 in a 96 Talon with a 420a stock. It is pretty useless to do, except just for the fun of it. Does anyone know any problems I might run into during the swap? It all seems fairly simple. I have a complete 98 Avenger at my disposal, so all of the parts from it are available. I'll post some pics here in a few days if I can get them.

How about a turbo setup for that 420a instead?

Re: 6g73 swap into 2g Talon
turbo the 420a
(I have installed the star kit on one and it was a nice kit)
get the upper frame rail mount from a turbo car and put in a 4g63 (it is a easy swap I have done it before)
or the best swap
get a hold of a evo 4-9 engine and tranny wiring and ecu and it is a driect bolt in to a 2gnt (just have to lock it in to fwd)

I think it would be cool to say you did it. But you are right it is basically useless with everything out there that you can to your 420a.

Like use it as a boat anchor, or the base of a coffee table, or maybe a really heavy paper weight.

Re: 6g73 swap into 2g Talon
A turbo 420a is appealing, but I am really looking to just do something out of the blue. I work at CI Motorsports, so I see tons of them around. It's going to end up being my mom's car, and she isn't into making tons of power. She wants something she can drive around and show off every once and a while. There's a lot more import shows starting up in the area, and I figure this would be something different.

Good luck with that tranny for the 6g73. Those things are piles of trash.

I am going to try to keep the stock automatic from the Talon. Is that going to be an issue later? Installing an intake and some sort of muffler are the only performance mods I am probably going to make. That will keep the power close to stock, maybe even lose some, can never tell with me sometimes. It's going to be a lot of cosmetic work, all show and no go, something pretty to look at in the driveway.

Why not swap in a 2.4L from a Stratus, Breeze, Cirrus, PT Cruiser?

Re: 6g73 swap into 2g Talon
I was just looking around the net for a while and saw that a lot of the sebring/avenger crowd is dropping the 6g72 (3.0) into their cars. I know I saw a burned up 3000gt vr4 in a junk yard not too long ago. If this swap is going to be pointless, why not make it fun? I have my doubts about turbo clearance. It does appear that it is quite easy to do using a 3g eclipse's 3.0 into an avenger, so maybe it is possible.
If I am going to do all the work to fit a LS1 into it, I'd shove a 13B into it. I believe there is a tranny out of some 2.2 fwd mazda that would bolt up and keep it fwd. Just hooking up all the lines would be... well... an adventure...

Re: 6g73 swap into 2g Talon
vr4 engine and the stratus/eclipse 3.0 engine spin opposite ways, you would have to keep the trany with the engine you decide to go with..
but imagine 5 speed into reverse!!!...
What would be fun is a rwd avenger, if i ever get time and money i would LOVE to make my eclipse into a RWD.. (right wheel drive) i mean rear wheel drive!

I second that. I have a 98 Venge with the 2.5L. Worst auto I have EVER had to drive.
Other than that, I love the thing. I would look into just leaving the 420a in there. the 6g73 doesn't produce that much more power than the 420a. And if it's your mom's car, who cares? Leave it.

Re: 6g73 swap into 2g Talon
Those motors are worthless. We have had to put 3 new ones in cars at my shop. All under 70k miles. You would have been better off with a shitty 7bolt.

7 bolts are not even bad, plenty of people run them over 400hp without problems. sorry for being off topic.
I would say do an evo 9 swap and get the mivec to work, now that would be a baller set up. You could safely say that your the only eclipse with variable valve timing and then make it rwd rather easy by using an eclipse rear end and a custom driveshaft. super pimp balla man
