For those actually IN the Christmas Spirit...

This is a bulletin my friend posted in her myspace. I cleaned up some of her grammar because she isn't very good at English, but I didn't change any of the meanings.

Quote:
Christmas is NOT a materialistic day to me its about giving to others.

Theres this lady at my Mom's job who was [recently] beat up by her son, and so was her 11 year old daughter. I've only met them once, and know they dont have much of anything and live from paycheck to paycheck. When i asked the girl what she wanted for christmas, she said "I just want to give hugs and kisses!" Oh my god... Anyone who knows me knows that I'm super sensitive and I started crying when I walked away.

So instead of worrying what I was going to get my friends for Christmas with the $200 I saved up, I bought gift cards for the mother and her daughter. We also gave them our tree we had not yet put up and some decorations.

So this year we wont be having a Christmas, and now that I'm older I could care less, because its not about the badass lights and ornaments, its about helping others.

This year I feel like santa
No cliff notes, sorry. If you can't take the time to read that then clearly you AREN'T in the Christmas spirit.

Personally, I think its awesome. I really wish I could help some one, but I can never figure out exactly how.

Well, obviously that lady made some poor choices in her life if her son is beating her up. Maybe she should tow her home to a new location and get a higher paying job. Or buy less crack.

Merry Christmas.

Lol, aww, come on. I hate hearing crap like that. If she's living paycheck to paycheck, she should invest some of her free time in looking for a new job. Kick her son the hell out or call the cops like that lady down in georgia did to her son who opened the x-mas gift early.

Improve your life and don't accept second best. Happy Hanukka.

I could flip out on you and tell you how sometimes it just doesn't work like that and how obviously you don't know shit about people hurt by people they loved and how you should have a fucking heart... but instead...

Happy Kawanza.

I could flip out on you and tell you that those people deserve what they have becuase they gave up on life long ago and think there is no way out. Or I could tell you that I agree partly because there is a system set up to hold the black man down and that you should get a fucking clue... but instead...

Happy holidays.

I have more of a clue then you'd ever fucking realize! But instead of trying to make you realize that...

Feliz Navidad.

Oh, yeah, I am not raggin' on her friend at all. I'm dismayed at the person who she is writing about.

At least some one has a heart...

You never know people's situations. I'm sure she doesn't enjoy living that way but sometimes people's minds get messed up. Her husband or ex husband probably abused her too. Now her son's abusing her because thats what he's seen. Something tells me you haven't dealt much with people who have gone thru shit like this.

Re: For those actually IN the Christmas Spirit...

The thing is that in a situation like that some super nice act on xmas isn't necessarily going to be a life-changing event for them. It's the day-to-day shit that makes a difference. Fatty (and others), I know how hard it is to see/hear about someone's hardships and blame it on them, but the fact is that there are more things in this world that can change people you love beyond your control.

Take this kid for example:

His name's Ronnie, and that a pic of him in my car on the dyno @ DB. He is my brother's godson, and my brother earned that tile by taking care of the kid a few days a week for the past three years. Why you ask? Ronnie's dad fell into a nasty meth habbit and has lost all sense of reality. I'm not going to even say here the amazingly stupid shit this guy pulled on his family, but trust me, it is been beyond uncool.

Anyways, I buy the kid sweet presents for his bday and xmas and I feel good about it, but it's my brother that's the real hero IMHO.

BTW, that day he was with me @ DB, Dan's little boy was there. They are about the same age, and while my car was on the dyno, Ronnie was flipping through mustang mags with him and I heard him mention once that mustangs sucked. Heh! The kid loves mitsu's!

just my $.02 merry xmas!

Why even bother posting? I'm gonna start asking you to leave your negative bullshit at the door. It's not even funny anymore.

Come on Andy. Get a hold of yourself dude. You do this shit periodically for no apparent reason. From knowing you in person you don't seem to be this way so why do it on the internet? I know this internet shit is serious fucking buisness but chill out a bit eh?

Tauni the story is not all that uncommon but its still cool. All kinds of people do extrodinary things during the Holidays. And some are just selfish dicks that spend all their money on themselves and nobody else. Thats just how the world works.

Posts like that make me think of what an in-sensative ASS you are. Not everyone comes from a suburba home with all the niceities that you were raised with. Maybe instead of judging the situation you can try to figure it out.

Tauni, nice post.

Re: For those actually IN the Christmas Spirit...

Ok, with the knowledge that there are 15 mods breathing down my neck, I will say that I never insulted her friend. But I really believe that personal choices deliver you to where you are or where you will be some time in the future. I choose to not smoke pot and play video games all day and have a menial job like moving or bagging groceries or something where i won't use my brain. I choose to take loans for school so I can get a good career and hopefully be as well off as my parents are (trust me, they are only average). I have seen and met people in "dire" situations, but guess what? this world is filled with options and ways for people to get themselves out of bad situations. It takes drive and determination and too many people lack that. They were imprinted with the fact that they have no control over their lives from a young age because the people they were around were a. lazy or b. unwilling to do more than just get by, so the standard is set.

I gaurantee all of you that her situation can be improved and she wouldn't have to change jobs or where she lives. I think the son should enlist in the military, and she should have a "lifestyle makover" - live and eat healthy, spend only the minimum on necessary items like food, clothing and electircity for your home. Reduce your extraneous costs and you get more money for things you really need.

Save money for the future or for the short term and put yourself through school; night classes if you have to work. It will pay off in troves.

I like to give, don't like to receive as much, but Fatty has a point. My cousin, her husband and 6 kids don't live that great of lives, but I give to them every year more than I give to anyone else because I care about them. The unfortunate fact is they put themselves in that situation.

First off, you shouldn't have to make a post if "15 mods are breathing down your neck"...maybe you shouldn't post if you don't actually have a fucking clue on the subject at hand. Tauni's post was titled "for those in the x-mas spirit" not, "who wants to rip this lady being described a new one".

On to your post:
Good points, however it is very obvious that you do not understand the "system".
Some people are forced into situations, some are by there by what you had said. Some people are infact lazy and just do what is needed to get by, and some are forced "down". The Section 8, welfare system in this country encourages lazyness or extreme sacrifice, it is by no means a "help you to get up and out" situation. This economy is VERY HARD to save money in, especially when you do not earn enough to survive (most families in that situation are WAY below the poverty line).
The fact that her son is abusive, shows he needs discipline, however him going into the military is highly unlikely. Odds are he does not HAVE enough discipline to even make it thru boot-camp. He will more than likely end up incarcerated, just a simple fact.

Schooling is a very good option, but for the thousands of single parents, it just isn't feasible.

I do agree that some people are just lazy and just take advantage of hand-outs and help-ups, but some people are truely grateful and really do need the help, especially this time of year.

So in closing, you could be 100% right or 100% wrong on this one, but quickly making a judgement on the situation is very bad.

I really don't want to get into this more, as I HAVE been there and do not want to share my experiences. Just let me say that I know what both sides of the coin look like from PERSONAL experience. I do not want to induldge in this further, I just hope that you will eventually understand the meaning of Christmas, Andrew.
