Somebody at the TSA needs an asschewing for not detecting the matches. Sounds like something the stupid f'ers at London Heathrow would do.

You are allowed to carry a book of matches on a plane. plus how would the TSA know if you have a book of matches in your pocket?

Pardon my error, you are not allowed to check a bag containing matches.

How should the TSA know? Considering the $billions$ which have been spent on airport security, I would think that they can detect something related to the composure of matches.

Re: Need to fart on a plane? Cover it with matches?

So if you're working security at the airport and some old lady's purse came through with a book a matches in it...
1. Would you catch it?
2. Would you give a shit?

No, you'd be looking for guns, knives, explosives, pepper spray, metal objects etc.

Not like your going to burn down the plane. The can always depressurize the cabin.

And no, I'm thinking that with the current state of airport security they *probably* dont have anything that picks up trace amounts of phosphorus in something as small as a restaurant matchbook. If they dont see it with the x-ray machine they are SOL.

The first link you showed said that strike any where matches are not allowed. Nothing about regular match books except that 4 books are allowed.

Here is a quote.

Just so you know. The guy you quoted is a pilot and his father flys an Airbus for NW.

1. Good question, I have not watched a the images of a bag going through a scanner. However, when I came through Denver last Saturday they were able to fully distinguish a mini-stapler in my backpack and the stapler was piled in with a bunch of other shit. Yes the stapler is metal, but, there were multiple other metal objects around it (pens, ruler, scissors, etc.).
2. Yes. Their job is to protect air travelers, not "selectively give a shit."

While I was waiting to go through security in Denver, I was looking at the little table, which always sits at the security entrance, with all the shit people leave behind and there were matches on it, hence when I made my broad statement about matches.
