Bastard 20g goes kabloom!
I heard an aweful sound on my way to work today. I was getting on hwy 100 south off of 36th, and as I got into full boost it sounded like the hamster that was running in my little turbo wheel tripped and bit it hardcore. I step on the gas again and it sounds like a freeking drill.
I topped up the oil the other day, I think maybe the oil pressure was too high...gah! I should have known, it hasn't been boosting 100% yesterday, it was on its way out the door
So, anyone want to help out with a turbo swap tonight? My car is in the parking lot of the Applebee's off of hwy100 that we usually meet at on Tuesdays. I'm gonna try & limp it home on some back roads.

Is there a PTE scm50 or scm61 in your future?

Re: Bastard 20g goes kabloom!
How bad is the damage, if there is severe shaft play I would drop your pan. I know from experience how much material ends up in your pan. Ask Barton, myself, or Jaei Sun whats left in your pan after a turbo suddenly goes out.
Now if it was just an oil seal letting go, I wouldn't be too worried but to me it sounds like you will have some serious bearing damage.
good luck, and go buy a pte 3561.

Re: Bastard 20g goes kabloom!
I don't have a handle on the amount of damage yet; I still have to look at it. Based on the amount of oil & lack of smoke, I'm thinking it's just an oil seal that let go. Cross your fingers!
Definitly getting something with a 61mm inducer, but I'm thinking ball bearing...

Re: Bastard 20g goes kabloom!
Anyone think it would it be worth it to have AAA come tow it back home, or would limping it on back roads be ok?

Re: Bastard 20g goes kabloom!
I don't know if I would risk anything more going wrong, so I'd have it towed back.
I'm down at SGH right now and will be for most of the afternoon. If Jana doesn't want me home for some reason I'd swing over and lend a hand tonight. Beats sitting in traffic trying to get home.

All right, I'll call AAA on my way over to the car & have them tow it to my place.

That doesn't make any sense, you are sending a punk over there to poke around at it!

Re: Bastard 20g goes kabloom!
Definatly get it towed.
When my T25 went out there was smoke everywhere, (got pulled over for it too) But it turned out the seal went out and blew most of the oil through it. Ended up blowing the crank main bearings, and causing crankwalk. Luckly i had a warrenty on the car still but they ended up replacing the engine. (Warrenty company didnt want to cover it because of the low oil, but after i yelled and screamed at them they finally gave in.)

Re: Bastard 20g goes kabloom!
The oil from the feed runs through the journal bearing and then out the return line into the oil pan. If the bearing blows up, pieces of it will end up going down the oil return line into the pan with the oil
If I end up with motor damage, I'll definitly be picking up an evo or something for my DD and then build up the eclipse for a weekend warrior

Ok, admit it. There's a small part of you that hopes there's engine damage. I might be able to come help a little later. What time are you thinking of working on it?

Re: Bastard 20g goes kabloom!
Well, you can pull a cher, and drive on it for a while. I still have his torn up impeller wheel in my toolbox here at work. A piece of plastic got sucked through it, while racing a black civic (not nate-guy thought he had a fast honduh) and then the turbo started to go out slowely. Finally, it snapped the actual shaft, and it oil started smoking out the exhaust, and filled the FMIC with metal. I know of a 60-1 with a larger compressor cover, brand fricken new, dual bb garret setup that is at elite right now.

Re: Bastard 20g goes kabloom!
I'll be calling AAA at about 4pm, and be at my house sometime after 5pm with the car. I'll start tearing into the car then. Right now my best option looks like a certain turbo in the for-sale section here. I'm going to head out around 7:30pm to help pull the new turbo off of it's current mount and then bring it back to my place for mounting. If anyone wants to help at any point, feel free to give me a ring. I'm hoping to get this bitch buttoned up tonight, or worst-case by the end of the weekend.
Does anyone have a 4" silicone coupler i could buy/borrow?

Re: Bastard 20g goes kabloom!
I'm going to be staying in the area so I will call you Chris to see where you are at when I am done. Sounds like I'm gonna meet Jana downtown and grab a bite to eat at Chevys and then give you a buzz.
