motor

I'm sorry I don't really know what section this falls under, but as my buddies and I tore apart the car(1991 Tsi), and the transmision, we noticed that on my front motor mount, there is a crack towards the bottom bolt, I have no leaking fluids, or rattles, or collisions of any kind, however, we felt that seeing as how that keeps my motor in place, it was something to discuss. I might get some pics of it, but all I hope for is that the bolt doesn't fall, and hope it doesnt crack more, if anyone has any advice, or information about how this works, let me know becuase i'm still learnin!, also, I kinda want to know if i can weld it back together, I apologize if I'm not being clear on the problem, thanks

Re: motor

So the motor mount is cracked? Get a new one. I wouldnt trust something that important if it was cracked. My buddy bought a car with a broken motor mount and they drove it 2000 miles home like that! Nothing bad happened though.

Re: motor

after further investigation, I found that the place where the lower mount bolt goes, the motor is actually a little cracked, not serious, but with torquing it may damage it more, any suggestions...

Re: motor

Your motor will shake and your suspension engine response will be slightly weaker. There aren't any real down sides though.

Re: motor

There actually is a downside, it causes the engine to torque more. This isn't too much of a problem except that your shifter cables don't move. It can make shifting much more difficult if it gets really bad. If it isn't cracked bad, take out the bolts and put a washer under them to spread the load out more.
