Trouble with shift linkage.

Just buttoning up everything on my car, and I went to go through the gears and i can't get into first, and neutral is down where 2nd, 4th, & reverse should be. The linkage looks exactly the same as the car i just took the engine out of. Thought i could have put the linkage on the wrong way, but they are only long enough to go on one way. Don't have clue.

Re: Trouble with shift linkage.

Could you have mixed the linkages up on one end? like.. have them right on one side, but wrong on the other? not sure.. just trying to give you some ideas.

Re: Trouble with shift linkage.

That's what i thought at first, but the one link was only long enough to go to the arm on the right. I didn't try to take them off the assembly that holds them down cause it was late and i was tired. I was just wondering if there is any kind of adjustment i can make.

sound like the shifter bracket must have held the cables a little bit differently to me probly closer to the shift linkage if i am thinking correctly?

90 tranny in a 91 + or 91 + in a 90 shell. ZZZ gay problem to have unless someone has the cables, shifer, brackets you need.

Re: Trouble with shift linkage.

I swapped my engine from a 92 to a 93, which is why i am confused, because the linkage shouldn't be any different. There were a set of '90 cables wich i sold to someone, and they looked different than the linkage in the original '92 car and the new '93 car. And i used the same bracket that they were on before. Nothing has changed, and that's why i'm confused. The only thing that could be different is the shifter itself, other than that, everything is either off of the old car, or looks the same as the stuff on the new car.

Re: Trouble with shift linkage.

Yeah, so, tried to troubleshoot the linkge problem today, but got no where. Took em off the bracket, tried to switch em around, but one didn't reach. Is there an adjustment i can make to lengthen and shorten the cables? The cable that connect to the arm on the right is too short. When i push the arm into the farthest gear, the linkage doesn't reach it.
