leaky tranny

so I was all excited to install the tranny i bought from sleepydsm, and i go to replace the axle seals and look what I see

So what do you think? do you think it could seal properly if i put some RTV on it?

I am not accusing sleepydsm of doing anything wrong, he just didnt see how messed up the tranny was, and neither did I

Ahh I see what you're saying now. Do you really think those scratches would allow fluid to leak out of the case? To my knowledge, it's the seals that retain the fluid in the tranny, not the CV shafts themself? To me that just looks like wear from removal and installation of CV shafts over the years.

+1. I don't see any severe gashes or scarring that would, (to me at least) cause any leaking. There's really only one way to find out though! Put her in there and see what she does!!!

Just please don't fill the front diff with RTV, I don't want you to give me that tranny back ruined because you think a few scratches on a 45 degree chamfer on the front diff where the CV shafts install will be the cause of a fluid leak.

As far as I can tell with the trannys is the seals seat against that alumunum opening and then to the shaft itself, as long as the shaft is in all the way and the seal is good, it shouldn't leak, no matter what the front diff or bering looks like...

oh, and don't use RTV, unless you use a lil tiny bit on that lil nitch in the alum where the seal seats in the tranny... if you try to rtv that front diff thing, it will just make a mess and not do anything helpful

I am really curious as to how the hell did all those nicks and gouges got in there...did somebody try to remove the axle seals....with a machine gun? how in the hell do you do that to a transmission?!?!??!

Well maybe people just shoved the CVs in there, instead of guiding it nicely?

upon inserting the passenger side axle, a vivid pop could be felt as the axle went in all the way, but there was still 1/8 of an inch to go. I compared it with a "working" tranny and there is a huge difference, not to mention the ball bearing race spins freely as it does not on normal cars.

So, now that I have determined that this is completely worthless, do you want it in your front yard or your living room via the window? JK

Anyways, shep will pay $300 for a "good" core, he deducts the core value if there is alot of shit wrong....shipping there costs about $100, so ill ship it and split the profits 50/50

or I can drop it off at your house, you decide.
