I've been looking around at the different front mount kits out there for shits & giggles and it seems like a decent Starion/Conquest front mount is fairly easy to come by. The question that I have is that is the Starion/Conquest front mount a worthwhile upgrade? Are they hard to install for example in a '92 TSi? Are there any differences in the Starion/Conquest front mounts for the different model years? Here's an example of one I came upon: Looky

Those FMIC's are terrible. Hardly better than the stock DSM sidemount. Not worth the work at all.

The 88-89 cores are slightly larger than the earlier models (for some odd reason though my friend's 87 is larger than my other friend's 88). This is a totally worthless upgrade though, these intercoolers are not any better than the stock sidemounts.

I heard they were a little better, but not even close to as good as a supra sidemount.

A little OT but why are they sooo bad? I have heard they are bad but why is it? From my viewpoint, they are larger and sit in the front of the car. Seems like they would help a decent amount. I am sure Jakey would like to know this anyhow.

BTW, there is an install on vfaq for a 90, 91, and 97-99. Not sure about 92 though.

BTW, I think that unreal808 on this site has one he is willing to sell. Might be cheaper than the one you are looking at.

Tiny inlet/outlets. Bad old cheap 80's core design. Those old Volvo FMICs are huge and sit up front, but they are terrible also.

They really are not that much larger than a stock DSM sidemount. Have you also noticed that the stock sidemounts sit in the front of the car too...just off-center?

Yeah, and usually behind a foglight.
