Dipstick blowing out at high boost

Went I went racing Sunday, I had turned up my boost from 25 to 26psi after my first run. Just after my 2nd run I came back to the pits and smoke was rolling out from under the hood and I was like WTF! Here the dipstick blew out and oil was everywhere. A good thing I had lots of rags with me. The dipstick is the original one and it appears to be fine. I have nothing to compare it too. I pulls out pretty easy. I'm not sure how tight they should be in there. Maybe it is too loose?? I understand that crimping the dipstick tube is a definate no-no which could lead to more serious problems.

So I don't understand why i build up all this crankcase pressure. I have a JAZ Products catch can. Both fittings on the valve cover goto this catch can. The PCV valve was replaced with just a straight thru fitting.

I did a compression test about a month ago and the cylinders averaged around 150-158# with a warm engine.

Am I ready for a rebuild on this '99 that has 90k miles? Are my rings shot?

She's getting a bit of blow by, just run more boost! Some people ziptie the dip stick. The first thing I would try is getting a new dipstick. I don't remember if you can get just the rubber piece or not.

What is so horrible about crimping the dip stick?

I just heard that locking the dipstick in there is bad because if crankcase pressure is super high, you have nothing to act as a pressure release- like the dip stick. Yes, I guess as cheap as a dip stick is, that will be my first thing to do. The top handle part on the 2g dip stick is terrible. It broke and I had to epoxy the handle part on.

I don't think that I should be ready for a rebuilt yet with compression in the 150's.

Question: You said just run more boost. How's does that help with blow by?

Get a new dipstick. As they age the rubber seals harden allowing them to pop out very easily. Last I checked a dipstick was around $14.

JET said to run more boost to make up for your low compression numbers. 150's is good for a 1G, but low for a 2G.

Thanks guys. I'll get the dipstick. I need one anyways so i don't have to worry about re-glueing this one again. I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't quite ready for a rebuild. I want to go another year yet before i think about a rebuild or a 6 bolt.

Ill tell you why crimping is bad, (just found out) after time of pushing in and out with that dipstick the rubber will get chewed up then blowby might come out. i thought i had a oil leak but over time it was buildin up on the bottom of the dipstick but it was just gradual blowby

I took all the duct tape off at lunch hour and checked it. Crap! It was loose as hell. You can physically slap it from side to side in the dip stick tube. It's like the plastic and o-ring shrunk over the years. I emailed Nick G. to see if they have one in stock but haven't heard back from him yet. My somewhat local dealer doesn't have one in stock.

I may go this weekend to fun day at the Rock.

Put a vac pump on it. My stealth likes to pressurize the crank case with the boost levels we are running. Solution? Vac pump next season.

I'd just run closer tolerances on the rings so you don't get blowby, but that is just me.
