Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Yep, buying those for the new build.

I also think I have decided on going ported OEM ported exhaust manifold again and a recirc downpipe probably to quiet it up again. If I am not going for stupid high power no sense in having all that lol.

I think I will probably go EF2.5 as well, rev to 8k on street (9k at track if needed) and shoot for 500whp. Then do a wally 255 with modded relief in the tank and go BAP if needed.

SO I will need a BUNCH of stuff to get the car to this but I am in no rush. I think the car will drive a whole lot easier, idle/drive better and be stock like spool. Should be interesting coming back down 250whp. Hopefully I don't get bored, if I do I sell it

Sounds like a solid plan. If you stir in turning the wheel along with 'only' 500 WHP, it's going to take a long time to get bored of the setup.

Totally give circuit racing a try when you're able. I think you will be very very pleased.

I plan to for sure, I'd like to do more road course stuff, the X is made for that. But that is also expensive.

Future I am going to look at getting a 17" slick setup on my car. I just don't want to have to go through 1200+ dollar tires and brakes all the time doing road courses. But I for sure will do some HPDE stuff at some point.

Also want to focus on the "small" stuff I have neglected. Rotors, driveshaft and taking weight out.

I just love the "Ron Method of Attack" with his 9 RS. That thing can do it all, perfect evo there. I just wish the X weighed less. I have to learn to drive for that method though too

Are you sticking to E85 or switching back to 93?

You will appreciate both of these things. I experimented with a tubular last year but the ported cast just takes so much worry out of the equation (plus I picked up 10wtq while only losing 3whp while on the EF2).

Oh that's right, you already told me that...

I'm curious to see if a single Wally will be enough to supply an 2.2L w/EF2.5...I definitely have my doubts. I honestly don't think my fuel setup (Walbro 255HP w/ID1k injectors) would support my car on E85 unless the tune was purposely held back.

Future plans still include a surge tank, so I don't want a big ass 450 in there. PLus the 450 was causing some pretty high idle pressures hardwired. And with 2150's and high base pressure that sucks for idle!

I just want to simplify everything and hopefully get some more "proven" shit in there. A 255 to me is very proven. I think with an AFPR and my 6AN feed line and 1300's I will be close for the 2.5 on corn. We will see. If not, I will just run with 450whp and keep it all safe. Then get the surge tank with wally 450 in it like I had planned.

lol, mentions track day and suddenly you need every mod under the sun to do it.

Just go drive the car first then figure it out, although with less power you will be less cool on the internet.....

I will need those mods as I am selling them all from my current setup lol.

I decided I would rather enjoy other aspects of life and have a savings account then try to be "cool" on the internet.

Too much monies to stay at high HP and realistically the Evo seems to be a much better all around car at the 450-500whp level. I just want to run 11's with the new setup and do it consistently. Maybe shoot for mid 11's. Then start trying to turn.

Based on what I've experienced over the past 2 weeks with maxing out a single 255, I'd would agree.

That sounds like a solid plan.

Let me know if/when you want a hand.
Plenty of X guys around here that turn to show you car specific stuff once you are ready.

If that is the case, maybe I will look at something else.

I was under the impression the wally 255 was good for 600whp or so (dynojet, not Shane DB dyno) on 93 and roughly 500whp e85.

Like I said I wouldn't mind stopping around 475whp or so if I need headroom. I could run higher base pressure too if need be as I am not planning to run 35psi or anything anyway.

I guess we will see.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

We run a Full Blown 340lph in Andrew's IX and it supported his 2.3L EF3 on E85 (FIC1450's), and 2.3L EF4 on 93 (FIC1050's). No silly fuel mods besides pump & injectors. It has idled perfectly on both setups so I can only assume idle base fuel pressure has been fine. I'm not sure if you can even get that pump anymore, but there is always the Aeromotive 340 which is used quite a bit down here in Evos and GT-R's as a drop-in pump.

It looks like the new AEM 320 is the same size as the wally 255. And with the install kit is only 170. maybe I will try that.

I guess from several threads I have read, people say that most of these newer pumps don't really flow more than the 255 once it has the relief modded and punched down. That was why I was considering just using that.

Yeah...but why eliminate a safety feature when you don't have to? That's just my 2-cents though, seems like plenty of people have punched it out.
