FP's NEW 18G-6SL2 Turbo

God damnit, I find out this thing comes out after I planned on going e316g/e85 on 850cc FIC's.

Sounds like a good deal though, cheap as hell and big as hell for the price.

FP's Site

The FP18G6SL2 turbocharger is a good choice for those looking for more power than the Big 16G in a street turbo. The 18G is rated at 600cfm, thats enough airflow to hit 400whp. We use the 18g wheel over the Evo3 wheel due to the 18's better high boost performance. The 18g wheel maintains its compressor efficiency much better in the 22-28psi range than the EVO3 16g wheel can.

It bolts up just like a regular 16G, and spools quickly enough to be very streetable. The 18G compressor wheel is mated to a TD06SL2 turbine wheel, which gives it better performance at higher boost pressures than the TD05H turbine, while maintaining lower exhaust manifold back pressures. The turbine housing is cast preported and fitted with a 34mm flapper valve. It is a perfect match for the Evo III O2 housing, and has a redesigned wastegate passage to better control boost creep, however some short side radius-ing of the WG entry will be helpful if you really want to turn the boost down. The high-nickel material in this turbine housing is much less susceptible to cracking than the materials used in previous generation Mitsubishi 7cm2 turbine housings.

Our FP18G turbos are built in-house at Forced Performance by our skilled techs, so you know that you are getting a turbo that can stand up to the punishment you dish out.

Basically now, I may want to switch turbos. Add your 2 cents guys!

Six years ago when I used to like the 18G people talked nothing but shit about them. Its about time they are catching on

Re: FP's NEW 18G-6SL2 Turbo

well if I get another dsm and upgrade it, I may be doing this instead of a 30 or 35 series.... it sounds nice and would be a much funner turbo as I would like to start autocrossing

Well like FP says they perform better than 16g at higher boost levels. The thing I always heard about the 18g was 'spools like a 20G with the power of a 16G' which is true *if* its run at pump-gas levels, 18-20psi. 22-28psi i.e. E85 or race gas is another story I guess! For $700 looks like a really good deal!

If your going to spend $ 700 on a bolt on turbo why not go with a bolt on 50 trim?

Re: FP's NEW 18G-6SL2 Turbo

Because this one installs exactly like a 14b and probably flows the same amount of air as a fiddy.

Re: FP's NEW 18G-6SL2 Turbo

So with pump gas and street use boost levels which one would be better, the 50 or the 18G-6SL2? If you needed to turn down the boost to about 18-20PSI would the 18G be running too far under its efficiency range to be a good street turbo?

If SBR sold FP products (per your website), I'm willing to bet that you would not have made that comment.

Re: FP's NEW 18G-6SL2 Turbo

A 50 trim flows slightly more than a 20g, so this is not going to flow the same as a 50 trim. Hopefully the new exhaust wheel helps cure some of the problems the 18g used to have. The 50 trim is also going to be much better at higher boost levels.

Re: FP's NEW 18G-6SL2 Turbo

Anyone have anything to say on whether or not 850's will run efficently with this turbo and e85?

I bought the 850's planning to do e85 on a e3 16G, as well as buying the Bullseye hotside for ~$210.

Well that would be 550+210=760. When this 18g runs around 699.00. I guess I'll get to reading, but was wondering if anyone thinks I should up the anny in the injector department?

*WILL 850's on e85 RUN EFFICIENTLY ON THIS FP18G!?*

$717.69 (18G)

$720 (e316g)

I Just checked and found I could save 3 dollars!

I am not looking for a pure drag car. Street/strip.

Re: FP's NEW 18G-6SL2 Turbo

I think 850 would be enough. If you figure 35% more fuel for e85, that would be like running 630cc injectors on regular pump, which should be enough for the 18g.

BSFC is around .77 (.75-.80) for E85

Yeah, I ran 550's with my 20G with no problems. You're well covered with 850's.

Good deal! Thanks guys! I'll probably look into it a bit more vs. the e316g but I plan on getting something soon, after I come grab that SB from ya GoatBlower.
