Now this is a Project...

My uncle has been working on this project for the past 5 years. Not mitsu, not a car, but thought you guys may like it.
North American SNJ-5
My uncle Jim is a retired Fed Ex Pilot, He picked this project up 5 years ago, and has been basically working on it full time for 5 years. Well as full time as retirement gets. He also has a Open Cockpit Boeing A75N1 Stearman BiPlane and a Beech A36 Bonanza.
The Stearman

A little history on this particular aircraft, This particular aircraft was at Pearl Harbor from 1942 (just after the bombing) until 1947 when it was brought back to the US. mainland by the Navy. Its a North American SNJ-5.
He originally thought would be a 3 year project, but has needed basically a complete rebuild. He purchased this while it was in peices in a truck to be shipped up to his hanger.
He sent me some pics of the progress a while back but used MSN to upload them and that only holds images for 30 days, so a bunch of the early pictures are lost to me. But here are some pics from the past 2-3 years.
He is now expecting to be flying this beauty this spring. There is a Lions fly in breakfast in early june that he plans to fly it. Ill definitly be there and update with more pictures.

Do you know what this was used for, was it a trainer?

Yes, this is a trainer. It is the same plane as the T-6 Texan (Air Force), but used for the Navy. Cool project!

Re: Now this is a Project...

Sweet! Nice to see an old plane restored like that. I wonder if someday a civilian could buy an F14 Tomcat to restore? I loved watching flight ops with those when I was on a carrier.

From what ive seen online you can buy migs and anothers. But granted you will need a lot of money. and probably lots of other stuff. Would be cool though.

Wasn't it pawn stars that had an episode where a guy was trying to sell an older russian fighter jet? Thought that was it, cant remember. The guy wanted a ton of money for it.
