Pressure plate/flywheel gap

Hey guys, just wanted to verify something before I put the tranny on tonight. I have read that there should be no gap where the pp bolts to the flywheel. I torqued all the bolts to 14 ft/lbs in a star pattern and yet I still have a slight gap.

I have read that if the pp isn't fully seated against the flywheel, you will not get an accurate torque measurement because you're fighting the actual sprung tension of the pressure plate. I didn't have a chance to work on it last night but as of now, this is how it sits with all bolts torqued to 14 ft/lbs:

I don't want to torque the bolts too tight considering they're already torqued to spec. I just want to do it right so I can make it to the cookout!

Re: Pressure plate/flywheel gap

Crank 'er down! It has to be fully seated to work properly. It's possible the heavier ACT pressure plate clamping force is throwing off the factory torque spec.

Re: Pressure plate/flywheel gap

Ok cool, thanks a lot! That's what I thought, I just wanted to make sure before I put her back together. Note that it is a act 2900 pp with 1200 miles/new act street disc/streetlite flywheel with 5,000 miles.

Perhaps the heavy duty pp and thickness of the new disc is contributing to the reason it's requiring more force then the factory torque spec to seat against the flywheel.

Thanks! Definitely pulling an all nighter so I have the whole day tomorrow to tweak some things and get her ready for Sunday.

Re: Pressure plate/flywheel gap

No cookout for me .... Alarm didn't go off and I am now just starting to work on her. All I have to do is put gear oil in tranny/t-case, intercooler piping, timing, and a few other little things. If I finish soon I might head up but I about 40 minutes away from Rogers so idk
