Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

With a MAF setup, it's plenty easy to mess up an intake, as ETS clearly demonstrated on the 8/9.

Gotcha, well as far as I know many people have had success with their products on the X and their intake has always seemed to work well.

Edit:

Also, Jon (aka my tuner) said to go with this intake. He said it flows better and just works better. So I guess ETS is out all together.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

All parts have now been ordered. Looks like the porting/coating stuff with MAP will be the bottleneck. I am hoping to have the car running by end of May.

I also changed from the AGP IC to the Greddy one per a recommendation from my tuner.

But ID1300's should be here this week and my fuel pump stuff is in stock at MAP. My new IC piping arrived today and my new stock turbo/manifold arrives tomorrow and will drop all that off at MAP thursday/friday.

Quesiton, my E85 that is in my tank has been there since last July sometime. Should I drain this or is it ok to run the car with this until I burn through it just idling and cruising?

I have no idea where I would dump the fuel if I needed to do that but that is another question.

Anyway, this weekend I am going to put the fuel pump back together and install the new AEM 320. Then I am going to start hooking up my new gauges in my new gauge pod and also work on the ethanol content sensor and the zietronix.

I'd definitely drain the 9 month old gas out of there.

It's fine for low-load operation. Dump a bottle of fuel cleaner/additive in with it to make sure your new injectors don't get gummy.

Nice looking intercooler too. I didn't know GReddy even had a kit for the Evo X. What did it cost? Retail is $$$.

Well, it was more than the AGP lol.

I paid 785, bought it through Jon. He said the flow on it is awesome and it looks cool with the dual channel deal.

So is there a special e85 additive I can use for this purpose?

And seems like Halon said drain, should I drain or do the additive and then just cruise around town to drain it?

I just don't know what to do with the fuel once I drain it.

9 months old isn't too bad as long as your system is sealed, especially if your tank is closer to full than empty; it'll sometimes sit in tanks and railcars longer than that

Lucas makes a special E85 additive, or you should be fine getting some Chevron Techron.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

It should be sealed pretty well. There were some holes in the cover of the fuel pump assembly that had connectors in them that I covered with electrical tape. But otherwise I bolted the cover back down with the gasket on there.

I will try just throwing in the additive and see how it runs, if its missing I will drain the tank.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Car parts day! yay! Never thought I'd be happy to see a stock turbo, but sure enough the thought of my car running again makes me happy. Time to see what we can get out of this little guy.

New IC pipes showed up too.

It's tough to judge what your thought process was for the de-evolution in power, the twin scroll PTE was boss...Enough and sorry for the negativity, I bet it will be nice to get it back on the street!

I do miss the twin scroll PTE, the setup was beast and pretty much everything I wanted out of the evo.

However, I decided it was time to get my finances in life straight. Being single with no house was easy to justify the stupid spending on the racecar. But when I got a steady gf and a house, I was really strapped for cash spending money on the evo. So I decided to just let it rest a bit and wanted to sell off some stuff to pay off debt. Now I am in much better shape, just my house and a car payment for my dd for debt! No more silly 0% stuff for car parts or what not. Also now have a savings account and starting to add stuff to 401k, so much much better off financially.

It did suck making the decision to demod the evo and go to half the power (no power right now) but in the grand scheme it was smart for me.

I am also working on refinancing and after that I will be doing a deck, sprinkler system, new sod, black dirt and landscaping hopefully. Trying to spread the love to other stuff in life besides the evo. I will get back to it though, don't worry And in the meantime I will enjoy the stock turbo.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Anyone know what Buschur uses for their exhaust clamps?

This is what it looks like (see below). Mine were rusted and snapped the bolts last year so I want to replace it with new ones.

Bill at MAP sent me these links:

http://vibrantperformance.com/catalo...1022_1070_1132

http://vibrantperformance.com/catalo...products_id=62

The first one they don't have a 3" for some reason. And I have no idea what the difference is between the first style and the second one. I am thinking of just going with the second one, it looks right to me.

Thoughts?

The first one looks closer to what you have in the picture. I've bought those at NAPA before, I can't remember what diameter they were though. Might be worth checking some local exhaust shops first

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Sounds like busch nuts will sell these to MAP for like 20 bucks. So I am just going to buy them from him so I know I am getting the right ones even though I am sure you are right and NAPA or someone probably has something. But 20 bucks seems reasonable.

Silly Buschnuts and his crappy diesel truck parts... Like the semi-truck radiator hose he cuts up and calls intercooler couplers

You know Buschur finds the cheapest eBay clamp and marks it up 300% right? That's what he does with half the things he sells. LOL

Design won't matter one bit, if the pipe is round it will hold it on there all the same, unless you have square exhaust piping?

You wanna be smarter financially? Start by stop over spending.
