How to clean a headliner?

So I bought my car and the headliner had water stains on it and I took it out. The headliner is in really good shape besides the stains so I was thinking... Can I have it dry cleaned?!?

What is your opinion? Also what do you guys think I should do about cleaning it if the dry cleaning isn't a good idea?

Re: How to clean a headliner?

How about some spot stain remover made for upholstery? Should work well and not damage the fabric.

What would I use to scrub it?? or would I just let it soak??? I tried to clean my gf's 2g talon's headliner and it started wrecking the fabric..

just blot at it with a rag versus scrub and you shouldnt mess it up. Wont get nearly all the stains out, but oh well

Re: How to clean a headliner?

So you guys don't think that I should get it dry cleaned or steam cleaned? I'm not sure if those are both the same but ya...

Re: How to clean a headliner?

Steam could likely loosen the spray adhesive and cause stretch/sags. If done very careful over a cloth to transfer it might work. Just don't work or scrub. Spray/blot works ok. I've used an extractor before with only partial vac and slight rinse after a spot treatment (first wet wider than spot spray area to avoid clean ring lines and work outside in on stains).

Re: How to clean a headliner?

The blue coral carpet/upholstery spray cleaner works very well and you just spray, wait a few mins, and dab to lift the stains. It took out stains in my 2g carpet from the previous owner, so the stains had to have been at least 4 years old. Last time I checked, it was a blue and white can at wal-mart in the auto area by the polishes.
