Perhaps going to paint hood
Ok I have been looking at my car too much and thinking of crazy ideas however I want to know what people think of this and get their inputs
My car is a 90 GSX and is red with a black roof. It doesn't have the black spoiler like the talons do though
I saw a car drive into Apple valley the other day, white talon with black roof. This car though had a black hood on it also. I thought it looked pretty sweet.
This morning I cam across a 2g with a mitsubishi logo on its hood and it was done respectively.
I thought about merging both ideas together
What If I painted my hood black but before doing that maybe masking a the mitsubishi logo on the hood and maybe something writen underneith it in red.
How would this look do you think?
There are lots of variables with this though:
Like color, flat black or semi gloss or paint it so it is glossy to match the rest of the car.
Size of the mitsubishi logo and the orientation of it like off to the side, which side, straight, angled?
There is also the lettering that would go underneith it
some options are
DSM
4g63*
16 valve DOHC
All-Wheel-Drive
AWD
there is the option of to hood pin or not to use hood pins.
O yeah and the option if I want a hood vent or not (can these be use on DD or is it too open?)
What do people here think? Or would this look completely stupid?

Re: Perhaps going to paint hood
In my mind, thats a little on the rice side for me to do any of that. Now, the hood scoop (again, my stupid opinion) would look bad, BUT it would do wonders in reducing underhood temps. I'd say it'd be fine for a daily driver... evo's, wrx, etc have them? You don't need hood pins at all on a stock hood, so there really is no point (hood pins are kinda ugly).
Why don't you get a Carbon fiber hood, paint it red, but then do what you wanted with the Mitsu logo/words showing off the carbon fiber? Still just as ricey, but at least you have a weight saving hood! Haha.

Re: Perhaps going to paint hood
Maybe it does look a bit ricey now that you mention it with the lettering. When I was picturing it in my mind I was hoping it was going to look more musclecar ish like this...
http://img96.exs.cx/img96/6885/duste...gedecal5hk.jpg
I kind of want a runner look to it. Not show car ricer like but yet fun
the hood vent I was thinking would look more like this
http://www.dsmporn.com/events/Shiny_...P_1548_med.jpg
I know that is a carbon fiber hood however i am pretty sure you can get just the vent through a company
There is also the home built
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/show...ight=hood+vent
I don't know though because it looks too folded tin can like.
98GSX, What kind of black, finished gloss or flat?

Re: Perhaps going to paint hood
Hey man, if you want something as tacky as a flat black hood with a hood scoop on a red car at least do yourself the favor of buying a carbon fiber hood.

Re: Perhaps going to paint hood
Id say keep the cars original looks.
My opinion is you buy the car because of the way it is, not to transform (rice) it.
Please dont do that.

Re: Perhaps going to paint hood
Yeah, if you're just going to paint the hood black you might as well get the carbon fiber hood. It looks way better, IMO. The hood scoop on that first picture looks "ok," but it looks a bit funky also because its right next to the hood bump that comes with the car so it kinda looks like too many bumps in one spot. A mitsu logo would look alright if it isnt over enlarged like some I've seen. Just dont get too ricey . (e.g. A crappy painted black hood with over enlarged Mistu logo and a tin can hood scoop.) Just my opinion .

Re: Perhaps going to paint hood
If you really want the logo on your hood, why not get it done in black vinyl? That way if you don't like it you can just peel it right off, and it will cost a lot less than having it painted.
Getting a black painted hood is a stupid idea though, thats the poor ricers way of trying to get the carbon-fiber look (from a distance). Either get a real CF hood or leave it red.

Re: Perhaps going to paint hood
Ok, So it is a no on the black hood.
I keep forgetting my car is closely related to rice burners. I am still use to muscle car look.
I really don't want to spend money on a CF hood, plus I really don't like the way they look (in japan they paint their CF). Instead of spending money on that, I could always upgrade something else on the car (injectors or front mount).
So for now I will stick with the stock red
I am surprise on the opinion of the hood vent though. When I was thinking of that, I was thinking more of the usefullness of it because when I was at a rally race all the DSM cars had them. You could see the heat coming from the hood when they were at a time stop. I would think they would help the underhood temp. Also another reason I went with the first picture instead of DIY is because in the rain i could see all the water run down that little vent from the hood.
Anyway sorry for the bad taste of hoods.
I won't paint it!

Re: Perhaps going to paint hood
A vent above the turbo is not a bad idea, some people have done very clean jobs and installed some mesh wire so its not just a gaping hole. This will help keep underhood temps down.

Re: Perhaps going to paint hood
Flat black is an old Mopar trick. It'd look decent without any graphics. My hood is CF and looks way too ricey for me, but I'm too lazy to paint it quite yet.

Re: Perhaps going to paint hood
Just out of curiosity, can anyone show me a good example of what a good hood vent should look like to them. I am still looking for ideas and pictures work very well

Re: Perhaps going to paint hood
Heres a tip. Dont try to touch any part of the exterior of the car. Only the wheels.
And the hood vent... look at the evo's mesh for an example. But personally I wouldnt even do that anyways. Just leave it how it is.

BTW, from the first post, 1g talons don't have a black spoiler on a red car. I have one in the driveway.

I'm pretty sure all the 1GA talons had a black spoiler and roof, or at least the turbo models.

I saw a guy at the cookout a few years ago, white 1g with a carbon hood scoop riveted on. It didn't look bad!
