A/C: Keep Or Remove?
The story:
Last year I had some problems with over heating due to poor air flow. I looked at my condeser and it looks as though it is leaking(small amount). I Have been trying to deside to keep it or remove it.
I know people say "you have a spyder you dont need A/C". But what about on those hot day when its a million degrees out wind doesnt help much. And what about if there is a female in the pass seat not wanting the top down(that probably wont be the case but maybe, just maybe).
So here is what im seeing
If I keep it:
The good:
Cold air when needed
Better to drive(more comfertable)
The Bad:
Restricted air flow
Higher underhood temps
Messy engine bay(cleaner without it)
Let me know what you guys would do for a semi daily driver.

Re: A/C: Keep Or Remove?
I would ditch it. With a convertible it isn't as necessary as a hard top. I lived without it on a hatchback, so it isn't that bad.

Its harder on the car and motor. Get rid of it. I never use the A/C anyway, the windows are always done.

Re: A/C: Keep Or Remove?
I'd keep it. You don't miss AC until it's gone (and it's 90 degrees and humid). If cooling is an issue you should look into a better raiator, cooling fans, water wetter, etc...
Of course I just removed my condenser, but I was having AC issues and didn't want to fix mine.

Re: A/C: Keep Or Remove?
It was nice shaving the weight on cleaning up the engine bay. If its not your daily-driver then remove it, but if you do drive the car daily during the summer then keep it.

Re: A/C: Keep Or Remove?
I'm daily driving mine, and when I go to drop in all my new goodies, I'm taking all that shit out. I have windows that open, and a sunroof I can take out, so that's good enough for me. I probably wouldn't even use it if I had it just cuz of how much power it takes away.

Re: A/C: Keep Or Remove?
But remember guys, keeping it would require replacing the condenser.

Re: A/C: Keep Or Remove?
Does everything else inthe car work?
Is the car in good shape?
Are you planning on selling ever again?
BIG QUESTION cloth or leather seats?!
you don't want to stick to the seats...
I am in the same situation wondering if I should keep mine or not. Everything in my car works right now exept the A/C
I kind of like having everything in the car work.
I don't like it when a switch goes out on the car or half of my dash doesn't light up when the bulb is burned out. It makes the car look trashy...And I think having the A/C switch there but not work makes the car look trashy...
But my car I plan on making it a weekend hotrod now...so I am in the same vote you are... do I ditch the A/C making engine bay cleaner (plus I am adding a FMIC)
My girlfriend doesn't like riding in it when the weather is hot either and I can't take her top down...er I mean I don't have a covertable like yours (however i do have a sunroof!)
I would keep the girlfriend happy and work around that especially if you are going to be driving it often...

Re: A/C: Keep Or Remove?
we got stuck on the way from we fest last year, sitting in 3 hours of stop and go traffic with the top down just killed us. when we were finnaly smart enough to put the top up the ac was a lifesaver on our sunburnt heads. after all that stopped traffic we still had another 2+ hours to drive. Im pretty sure we would have died without ac, im sure someone removing their ac will have an extra condenser for you to buy.

Re: A/C: Keep Or Remove?
The car is in great shape, mostly everything on the car works, and it has tan leather seats. Even with AC I got MAJOR swass from the hot leather.

Re: A/C: Keep Or Remove?
I'd say keep it. Try to fix the problems.
When those 100+ humid summer days come by, and the top is down and the sun is burnin the crap outta you, you'd wish you still had it. I tried driving last summer without turning the AC on b/c it created problems for my car, but couldn't handle it. It got too hot. Having swass is ok, but its better than getting out of a hot car and your pits and back is showing sweat.
Plus, the girls would love it if you had AC in the car. I've learned that they tend to bitch alot if I don't turn it on.

I think you have your answer
Leather seats + hot temps + no A/C = Major swass and girls pissed off!
Throw an extra electric fan in there and you shouldn't have much cooling problems
