CEL on 1990 GSX
O.K. I know, get the code checked out, I just don't want to pay $100 for someone to say it's a something-something error code. So, that being said, someone stole my datalogger, stereo, sub, and radar detector, on Mon night out of my driveway O.K. on to the problem, I have a 1990 GSX, Dejon Tool intake (new), K&N air filter(new), no cat, Manual boost controler, Nology Hot wires (new), NKG plugs(new), O2 sensor (new), idle speed stabalizer (new). The car starts great from cold, and runs great (the good) untill I shut it off when it's up to running temp and restart it, then I get a CEL and it runs like it's not firing on all 4, if I let it cool down all the way and then restart, no problem.

Go to wal-mart. You can get a cheap analog one for $10. If you want something nice you could get a nice digital one from Sears or wherever. Fluke makes good ones.

Make sure to check that none of your wires at the ECU is touching because you did mention your AFC was stolen.

Re: CEL on 1990 GSX
Got a meter, they only had digital ones, and it is hard to read exactly what the code is, it goes through the numbers so fast. I think it's either the O2 sensor, or the MAS. I just had the O2 sensor changed a a dealership, so I think I might bring it back into them and see if the sensor they put in is bad. Any thoughts?

Really, there's a cheaper and MUCH easier way to find codes for 1st gens. Go to RadioShack and buy a cheap buzzer, I think they're like 99 cents or somethin. Anyways, you can tell for sure if it's a short or long easily.

Re: CEL on 1990 GSX
ok, got the code, and it's been traced down to a bad injector, #3. First question is, can I go w/ bigger injectors, without having to do very much else? (if so, what else do I need to do) And, what kind of $ am I looking at either with new stock size, or bigger and whatever else I need.

Re: CEL on 1990 GSX
Go to Autozone, they pull codes for free.
You can go with 550cc fuel injectors, just use your AFC to get the car tuned. Unless you actually need them though, I say just buy a stock injector from someone for cheap. Always a good idea to use some quality (Chevron Techron or Redline SI-1) fuel injector/system cleaner.

Do they pull codes on cars that are pre OBDII? The only reason I suggested the volt meter is cause I thought they only checked codes on cars that were OBDII.

Re: CEL on 1990 GSX
Usually AutoZone and the other parts stores only pull OBDII codes. There were so many different OBDI setups that it is almost impossible for any store to carry them all. Hence OBDII, the federal government told everyone that they needed a common diagnostic protocol so that a single scanner can read every car.
And in my experience, the analog voltmeter/buzzer is by far easier to use than any aftermarket scanner on a 1g. Finding an intact DRB2 adapter for the Mitsu. at a dealership is next to impossible. And even the Snap-On scanners often have trouble working right.

Not for our cars. I tried a while back and they don't have anything that will pull codes for OBDI.
You need an analog meter to pull codes. The digital ones don't react fast enough to give you the correct codes. Anyways glad you got the codes.

Re: CEL on 1990 GSX
Yep, 1g DSMs have the OBD1 and it's hard to find anyone that can pull the codes, Fury Motors in Inver Grove, checked it out for me, I think I'm going to find some used ones to toss in, Just had a baby and cash is a little short for buying a new set of bigger injectors, S AFC, and fuel pump. unless I can find everything on the cheap.

Re: CEL on 1990 GSX
hame you checked out tmo.com that has to be one of the easiest and cheapest ecu upgrades. uses the boost gauge to show o2, volts and other stuff plus has the cel morris code. costs 100-300 depending on what you want.

Recheck to see if it is the same CEL code.

Re: CEL on 1990 GSX
thanx for the offer, if I can't find someone a little closer, I might do that. If anyone is a shorter drive, and willing to help a bit? I'm in the lakeville/Apple Valley area.
