Re: My ChumpCar experience

Here are a couple quick pictures.

This is turn 6 just after coming up the hill under the bridge.

I believe this is turn 13, with the turn 12 sand trap in the background.

Re: My ChumpCar experience

The gap between 2nd and 3rd after 7 hours of racing... They were like this for an hour straight, sometimes passing eachother 2 to 3 times a lap. The yellow Impreza team was a class act.

Broken trunk latch? Where did you guys come up with the name "Slugworks" anyways? Do any teams run DSM's?

Found some videos of you guys, you should post more up from future races!

We turned the truck into a wing, that is why it is up.

14 to 24 hours of full throttle, we went through 55 gallons of gas in about 7 hours with the little Honda that doesn't make much power. Another team brought 3 BMWs, 2 blew engines, 1 had tranny problems. An all motor D16 Honda put a rod through the block within an hour of practice on Friday. Maybe not the best environment for a DSM.

Slugworks is a play on "S-works" Because a few of us used to race mountain bikes.

I honestly think a turbo 1g would be awesome, but I'd be afraid of it being able to make it the entire distance.

The plus side is that DSMs are in the proper price range. From what I understand labor and money put into anything safety-related is excluded (brakes, tires, roll cage). So you buy a reasonably priced car...gut the interior and sell everything that doesn't need to be there...have someone on your team that is a mechanic, someone that can paint, someone that can weld, and maybe a person or two that can contribute mostly $ for the safety stuff and you end up with a nice car. I think the successful team will be one that can find the right mix of drivers with proper skillsets/resources.

Re: My ChumpCar experience

I think a 1g dsm could last. We all know the engines are stout, and a lot of people here know how to make a reliable, sound DSM even with little $.

If i can make a turbo honda with toothpick rods last 18 hours on a track... a dsm can do it

And yes, DSMs are totally in the right price range. mlomker, I think you have it nailed, its good to have a variety of skills on a team. You shouldn't all be just good mechanics, or just good drivers. It even helps to have 1 person who is just anal and super detail oriented to take care of all the logistical stuff and recording times, etc. Everyone should have a specific job/set of responsibilities.
