Re: Finally got my Evo
Tune just got moved up a few days. Was scheduled to go in on the 22nd, I'm now going in on the 18th.
Apparently some über rich dude is flying a tuner in for the day and renting DB's dyno for the whole day to get his BMW tuned. Shane, Danny, and the crew have been awesome to me over the years, so I gladly moved up the appt. for them. This way I can get some E85 action 4 days earlier anyways woot!

$50 Bosch universal 4-wire works perfectly. Otherwise OxygenGeeks has a direct-fit for ~$60.

Re: Finally got my Evo
Another thing I forgot to mention was the Synapse BOV. When I installed it, I was having some pretty bad surge around 4k rpm and up. I followed the directions I found from other people running it and Tee'd in the C port to the Compressor housing/MBC line, and the A&B ports in a Y connector and ran that to the stock BOV vacuum connection that runs along side the valve cover. This morning I decided to experiment a little with different ways to route the A & B ports. Some people were having better results only using either the A or B port with the other open to atmosphere.
First I tried running only port A. it felt good, there seemed to be a little 'leak off' of boost(for lack of a better term I guess) in partial throttle acceleration, but almost no surge.
Second I tried port B. There wasn't as much boost 'leak off', almost none actually, but the surge was back just like when I had A&B hooked together.
I decided to run port A to the stock BOV vacuum location and feels good. MUCH less surge than with the stock BOV in high gear (5th and 6th mainly) while at low speeds. Overall, for $80 spent on the thing I am happy with it so far.

Thanks! I'll keep that in mind if mine goes out

If I can't figure it out, I'll just say screw it and do the 10kohm/.25 amp resistor all old skool like.

Re: Finally got my Evo
Can't you just turn on the rear O2 simulator in Tephra?

Re: Finally got my Evo
Yes, but you still have to deal with the O2 heater CEL as well

Re: Finally got my Evo
Open the XML files with notepad or a basic XML editer, not a webbrowser.
If you have any current version of tephra, it will have the rear o2 sim patch (and be an option under tephra options). Then for an IX the rear o2 heater bypass is just a simple bit change....look for a thread by mrfred titled something like 'looking for an Evo ix owner to test...' and look for some confirmation posts by me for it working on Hughes or rosey's car. Lmk if you can't find it.
Edit, posting from phone sorry, looks like above link is right!

That seems to have done the trick! I opened it in wordpad and got the text below. Look right?
I have tephra v5.10 right now btw, and this is what the front/rear O2 table look like. Look right also?
(obviously leave out the top like between the asterisks)

If the above is hard to read, the 2DC52 table under rear o2 heater patch reads : "4C10"

Re: Finally got my Evo
Got the Map switch mostly installed yesterday, I couldn't seem to get the stupid ECU pin to push in, tried everything. I'll just see if Shane can get it in there.
Everything else is in order, I just have to boost leak test and change the oil some time this week and I'm ready to rock and roll! 7 days til E85
Hopefully my throttle body shaft seals don't leak. I have new ones to put in, but no TB gasket.
Also, while I was doing a few small things, I cleaned the black crud off my valve cover that would never come off, and I decided that the lettering was a little on the bland side. So I took the paint off the letters and polished them
only took about 30 minutes, maybe some day when I have nothing else to do I'll re-do it and get a real high gloss shine to it.

Re: Finally got my Evo
Changed my oil on Wednesday with some Amsoil 10w40 High Zinc. Thanks again for that Kerry.
Did a boost leak test today. Throttle body seals leaked like a mother, Troy and I swapped those out which took forever and a freakin day thanks to one being stuck in there like crazy. Finally got the high pressure seals put in, tested it again, replaced the two evap lines (I'd like to get rid of them someday, but just keeping it simple for now) zip tied both EGR lines while I was in there also, and tightened some clamps here and there. There wasn't any real major leaks, it kind of holds 15psi which is all I could get with the janky little setup I had to work with. I think it will be fine though.
Bring on teh corn!

Re: Finally got my Evo
See if Shane'll let you do a test with their equipment while the car gets strapped down, we got mine to hold 27psi steady after a bit of zip-tying.

Props for taking care of the small shit that many people would put off. I'm sure your hard work will pay off on the dyno! Good luck!
