I don't want to read backwards through the thread to see if you said, but what are you going to do next to it "mod-wise"?

In all honesty, probably nothing. The car makes good torque and power for Anna and its fast/fun enough for me whenever I land in the driver's seat (which is often). The only things I would do are an uprated FSI fuel pump (with new flash is supposed to be +25hp/+35tq...unconfirmed), FMIC, aquamist....it gets easy to make the list longer but its only going to get super expensive from here on out. If I get a super good deal on a part here or there it might happen, but um...I have something else in the garage to keep me happy power-wise.

Correct, there's local dealers; direct port is a huge plus. I've been waiting since January for EPL to get direct port working in their dealer network. It's close, but I didn't want to wait any longer so I just sent it out.

Re: Anna's VW GLI DSG

If you decide to do the bumper yourself, let me know, I have taken apart a few of these bumpers and they're pretty simple. I'd be glad to give you a hand with it.

ORLY....maybe I should have you take a look at it and see if you know how to adjust this one part...

Why the thought of doing it yourself when the other guy's insurance is paying for it? Pocket the cash?

Will his insurance cut a check straight to you? I know your own would if you make a claim, but I've never been in an accident so haven't had to deal with someone else's insurance.

Re: Anna's VW GLI DSG

Yeah, their insurance will cut him a check, and he can do whatever he wants with it. So I would advise to get two of the highest estimates possible, and submit them to their insurance company.

Re: Anna's VW GLI DSG

So these first-gen direct-injection (FSI) motors have this cam lobe on the end of the camshaft with 3 bumps on it, that drive a the mechanical FSI fuel pump mounted on top of the motor. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the retarded design, its a flat piston. The later models (2008+ I think) have a more logical roller-style cam follower, rather than this stupid flat design.

After seeing all of the nasty nasty pics online, I got worried and just HAD to yank the FSI pump for a look. I ordered up a new follower just in case and swapped in new spark plugs at the same time (was due around 60k anyways). I went with 1-range colder plugs from NKG.

Here's an EXAMPLE pics of a cam follower gone wrong. MOST of these are on cars with upgraded FSI pumps, which tend to put extra wear on these things (and sometimes eat through teh cam!) Completely worn through, and cam is effed:

On to the pics, old vs new:

Aweful pic of the cam lobe. It looked good, some very light scratches, but they could just have been from me sticking my finger in there (just oil marks).

And finally, I wipped off the vacuum pump (goes where the CAS is on our 4G63's, crazyness!) to see what cam this thing has in it. Yippee! It's the Revision B two-piece cam. Note the second piece of metal surrounding the main cam core. This is an extra-hard piece (or something) that is also replaceable (if it gets damaged):

I went ahead and replaced the follower. The coating was pretty much worn away, but it was very smooth. PITA swap on this car, it has all hardlines going to the pump.

Re: Anna's VW GLI DSG

I'm glad that thing didn't completely wear though, but from the looks of it its good you replaced it when you did!

Re: Anna's VW GLI DSG

Update, massive projects taking place on this thing lately. It's Anna's birthday, so I went ahead and cleaned, vacuumed, scrubbed, washed, polished, and waxed her car for her today. 63k miles and going strong!

Re: Anna's VW GLI DSG

I'm thinking about bleeding in it again.

I was actually just thinking back about all my experiences in the GLI over the years and remembered our crazy trip out to Chicago/Ann Arbor to pick up my IX.

Re: Anna's VW GLI DSG

Hey I've got an X that demands a lot of my attention, not to mention Anna herself She'll never clean it, it's pretty much up to me. We have a running joke that 'it's father's day, time to clean anna's car!' Seriously though it does get regular washes and such, just been a while since its gotten a full cleaning like this

Like hughes said, it's been a warrior. Bar nights, road trips, and shit, she's been autoX'ing the thing this summer!
