Re: Evo X upgrades
Maybe TOO MUCH fuel for a warm start is your problem?

Re: Evo X upgrades
This is what I was thinking as well, but that wouldn't explain why it wouldn't start on an incline.

Maybe the incline had nothing to do with it...just random chance that when he rolled it down to flat ground the engine had enough time to cool down by that point.
Did you try any other warm (not hot) starts on flat ground?

Re: Evo X upgrades
I didn't realize how tiny the afpr that comes with the MAP kit was...the bracket won't be of any use to me. I am going to have to run the thing over to the space under the conical filter, where I currently have a catch can. That catch can should really be relocated somewhere in the back of the engine bay, anyway...there's just not a great spot for it.
Well, I guess I'll get some opinions at the newb mod day tomorrow. I'm sure there's a spot for it somewhere.

Re: Evo X upgrades
I know this will make most of you laugh, but I'm proud that I was able to make a bracket for my afpr tonight. Stuff like this almost never works out for me. Dremel ftw.

Re: Evo X upgrades
Good job! If it works, it works! Now just get it powdercoated at Primo and it'll look perfect.

Nice work man! As long as it's secure, that looks fantastic!

That's what I'm talking about. Let me see more stuff like that, I'm all about making your own stuff whether it's little brackets or sectioning the shock bodies to lower the car, doing your own fabrication or figuring stuff out makes the car so much more "yours." You'll love it more.

Re: Evo X upgrades
Shawn is so McGyver that he found a better location and had stuff lying around to make a bracket. In the end one of the fittings that I had didn't 'fit' so the afpr didn't get installed.
Re-wiring the pumps solved the excess fuel pressure at idle issue. I'm assuming it'll be close enough under boost to be tunable. If so then I'll skip the afpr since this is one piece of complexity that I don't like.
The PLX gauge setup blows chunks at this point. It may be another thing that looks pretty but doesn't work. If I go over 5k rpm the gauges freeze up and misbehave. If I'm just tooling around town then they are fine. Spent a few more hours this morning troubleshooting but nothing makes sense. I'm going to check whether they need a firmware update and starting reading the thicker manual. no big deal...I didn't have gauges before. lol.
The fueling situation seems really good right now--no misfires or knock when beating on it. Need to get the car to Shane sometime this week so he can check it out before the 26th. I want to get some laps in.

Re: Evo X upgrades
Did some more tinkering with the gauges. The OBD module had a built-in terminator that defaulted to 'on' and was messing up the bus (the modules are daisy-chained). Turning that off totally solved the issue with that gauge. The secondary display module is still flaky but I'll need to do some more troubleshooting...might need to be sent in for warranty repair.
I also discovered that my boost gauge was only going to 18psi. I'm guessing that the vacuum line on the BOV is limited to wastegate pressure...I moved the tap over to the 3port line and it looks good. It's apparent that Shane taps in at that spot.
It's such a novelty to have a car that runs right! I was on the back-roads near my Dad's house (WI)...doing pulls to test the gauges. I'd almost forgot why I bought the car.

Revel in this and remember it when you think about doing big projects I LOVE my evo but only when I can drive it whenever I want to! These cars are too much fun to not drive them!
I'm *really* glad you have it in a good spot now man, congrats! Can't wait to see some final dyno plots and pics/vids of this thing tearing up the track!

This should be our creed or something...Too much fun to not drive...I am starting to understand this. I think not driving my car for so long will only make me love it more.

Yea, you are totally right. I have come to realize this.
I didn't really have a choice in my scenario, but it will make me think twice before doing anything again.

Re: Evo X upgrades
Managed to figure out the PLX gauge wiring today. Those guys don't make anything easy. Now I have to figure out how to get them to display what I want. The OBD module also goes out to lunch under heavy load. I need to call them tomorrow and see if there is a firmware update for that one.
I'm going to buy some vacuum line and re-do some of them tomorrow. I kinda butchered them up taping in at various places to see what the vacuum/boost readings are on various lines. Was curious...

Re: Evo X upgrades
OMFG. Everything on my car is working. I'm not sure what to do about this.
I'll get it over to Shane to have the tune checked. I have ordered a few small things in the last week: Torque Solutions driveshaft bushings, Beatrush rear diff mounts, and Racingline rear swaybar end links. It's nice to be down to smaller projects!
I'm going to go to the open house for that alignment place near MAP this weekend. I want an appointment for a corner balance.
