Actually they aren't Neons at all. It's called the Dodge SRT-4, you won't find a Neon badge anywhere on the car. They have similiar styling to the Neon, but the engine/drivetrain are completely different from that of any neon.

actually i think i read an article sumwhere that said that, i dunno if its true, but i read that sumwhere

Whatever article mentioned that is wrong.
Sure the motor and tranny were never available in a neon, but its still a neon.
The motor is the SAME one that they put in the GT cruisers..... now is not a PT cruiser?? Same with the SRT-10 Ram and SRT-10 Viper.... both are still a Ram and Viper. The 4 in SRT-4 stands for cylinders. Sure the car itself might not have Neon badges, but if u need parts, u need neon parts, if you get a Factory Service Manaul for the car, you get a NEON SRT-4 Factory service manual.
In the end the SRT-4 is still a neon, it always has and always will. When I was down at the Belvidere plant in June of 02.. months before they were even being manufactured, one of the PVO dudes had a red one, he was displaying it for all at the "Neon 2002 gathering" This was before they even had the "cut outs" or "snouts" in the front bumper for cooling the radiator. I have a few pics, and a vid of it, he even raced a new WS6 infront of the plant with 4 people in the SRT..... took him up to 100.... but this SRT was a "MANUFACTURER" vehicle...*wink, wink*
The original Neon SRT concept was a supercharged 2.0 SOHC motor, they just made it better... reasons right out of PVOs mouth for going the new motor and tranny route "the 2.4 was the biggest motor we could fit, and we didnt need 6 gears to get the job done" The stock Neon transmission cant handle the power of the 2.4 turbo.... although the tranny will bolt right up. Thats why the SRT tranny is the V6 Stratus 5speed tranny.
Ok im sorry, that got a bit long, yes the SRT-4 is a neon, and yes my gf has the white ACR with a cage that works at Checker.
Just introducing myself remember?

You do know the MINI is powered by a NEON motor right?
|
Actually its not...
The only thing I hate about the Minis is that they made a joint venture with Diamler chrysler and they are cooperating on the engine building process.
Chrysler says that it will use that engine only for non US applications. Which means they are not Neon motors...
Plus Benz is using all there knowledge now to build better engines for chrysler... therefore the new neons are probably much better than the old ones.
Heres a link about the Mini engine if youd some more proof. Mini engines...

Ahahahaha! But then again, the Neon is sold in other countries besides the US, and therefore the 1.6L "MINI" motor IS a Neon engine.....
http://www.diskdrive.co.za/new_launches/nl...neon_16_se.html
http://www.km77.com/marcas/chrysler/neon_0...02/16/texto.asp
http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/BMW-Mi...er/message/1900
And im sure as you read, BMW doesnt want to get rid of the 1.6L because its a bad engine, but more so because of "Diamler Chrysler", Diamler Benz being BMWs biggest competition.
So again, the 1.6 L "MINI" motor IS a Neon engine....
Ok, im not here to make my welcome thread fifty pages long, that has happened once already, but as DSMstyle said, you guys like that stuff?? LOL
"Hi"

dang boy, sounds like u wanted to get in a throw down over that. I was just saying i read in an article that dodge wanted to get their neon srt-4 to be noticed more as a potential race car, and not the typical car that people picture on the billboard with "HI" written above it. And they said their very first step was removing any NEON badges on the car, so people didn't associate it as the "HI" car as much. Never said they were no longer called neons, just took off any badging that said neon. I personally think they are pretty cool cars, just i've grown to hate FWD on a car that i wanna modify, its the absolute worst drivetrain platform to work with when dealing with performance or racing. Now im sure you're going to argue about the whole FWD thing too, cuz its good from a roll right :jammin:

No throw downs here, i wasnt upset at all..........
Thats the thing of the internet.... you dont understand my tone or anyones sarcasm.
I didnt come here to argue, make enemy's, start wars or anything like that.
Opinions...everyones got them right?
I just state facts.
Opinions on FWD....thats fine.. everones intitled to them.
Advantage?? Less rotating mass, less loss in hp, less parts to fix.
This is my last post in this thread.
No chips on my shoulder.
Hi everyone

ok i didnt get into this at the right time but everyone here knows that (most) of our dsms that were produced had Neon motors (GS and RS) i dont like neons but the dark truth is that we do have a connection to them, they must build cheap motors...
Hey Welcome to the site.... sucks you had to drive a neon in here but oh well nobodies perfect... LOL JK
