Re: Shari's 2009 Raliart
I contacted and sent pictures of the failure to a Mitsubishi service manager. He is contacting and sending pictures to his service represenative but doubts anything will happen.
Very sad as parts availability is scarce and very expensive.

Re: Shari's 2009 Raliart
The SST is a great transmission, but the maintenance/repair/replacement costs for it are enough to make your cringe.

Re: Shari's 2009 Raliart
Hopefully they do something to help out, but I don't thing anyone would be surprised if they don't. I've never driven an SST type transmission on any car but they seem pretty sweet.

Wow! Not at all what you'd expect to see from DD use!

Well, when there's an OE seal that's missing, chances are pretty high you'll find plenty of things you weren't expecting.

Re: Shari's 2009 Raliart
Well just for shits I asked for a parts quote for a new trans and transfer case.
10812$ for the transmission and 3619$ for the transfer case. Ridiculous to say the least.
I'm in the middle of disassembly of the transmission. I need a special spanner wrench to remove the clutch assembly.

Wat? Mind blown. I would expect that for a Ferrari transmission, not a Mitsu.

Re: Shari's 2009 Raliart
SST is a Mitsubishi dual-clutch transmission, and it is not horrible, especially with tuning. Are you thinking of Subaru's CVT transmission?

Subaru doesn't have a dual-clutch offering. CVT, you're probably thinking of. And yes, they're horrible.

Holy shit! Thats about 90% of the car's retail price.
I don't know how you feel about used parts, but on car-part transmissions and transfer cases are $1000-$1500 depending on mileage/condition.

Re: Shari's 2009 Raliart
I recommend that you still write Mitsubishi North America a letter with pictures and description of this issue. This is a major miss with their manufacturing process, your evidence demonstrates that it is clearly insufficient. Keep it positive; include your VIN and other purchase information. Also demonstrate your brand loyalty, ask if they are willing to do something for you. I would state that your car is outside of their warranty. However, you still have expectations that this issue is unacceptable even if the car is outside of warranty. Under correct MFG processes of having that O-ring it would not have happened in the first place.

My bad it was CVT. It was disgusting. Sorry I got mixed up.
Good luck getting this figured and thanks for sharing.

Re: Shari's 2009 Raliart
The differential is damaged, which you cant actually see the damage in any of the last four pictures. The front differential is the big gear on the top left corner of the second picture, which if you look at the last picture you will see is gone along with 1,3,5 gear cluster.

Re: Shari's 2009 Raliart
Everywhere I turn with contacting Mitsubishi they have zero interest in the failure and zero interest in helping me. I hope this doesnt happen to anyone else or at least they catch it before there warranty is out, but I dont know how you would as there were no symptoms.
