Re: The Voy project - ridin' durtay
I think I'm going to take your advice and keep the orange pieces in, but just tint them slightly. I don't think I'll tint them black, but kind of like my taillights so you can still see a little bit of orange, just a deep dark orange. I might do them just a hair lighter than the tails though. And I may do the orange turn signals on the side mirrors the same also.
Anyone got a small amount of nightshade sitting around or anything like that? It'll have to be just a quick spray job because I'm not going to pay a bunch to have these done professionally. I think nightshade will do the trick for these little pieces. I hate to buy a whole can just for this though. Anyone have any they'd let me use, or buy a half empty can from?

Re: The Voy project - ridin' durtay
Hey thanks for the offer, but that's kind of a hike isn't it? Probably looking at atleast a 1 hour round trip I'm thinking to get there. For the amount of gas this thing sucks, I may just buy a small can if I can find one.
But, update time!!!
Got the projectors in the mail today. I was really hoping they were going to just fit right in without modification as that's what these projectors are meant to do. Problem is the size of the projector, and the size/shape of my OEM reflector bowl. They don't perfectly work together so some modification was required. I decided I wanted to try and keep the housing as unmodified as possible. I did have to grind away a very small spot, but it's somewhere that'll never be visible so no biggie. Had to cut away a couple spots on the projector bezel, or whatever the name is for the decorative outside piece. It was hitting the OEM housing in a couple spots, which is why I had to modify them. But I think those couple little mods pretty much took care of it all. I only did 1 for now, will do the other one someday soon. I don't think I'm going to completely seal the headlights back up though until maybe April which is when I'll be back home and will have the Balast kit.
Also I'll mention these came with some Halo Angle eye thingies that I snipped the wires on and removed. They were in the way, and cheesy anyway so you'll notice that is removed.
Ok enough rambling, on to the pics.

Looking good dude! I might have a little niteshades left over that you could have. I work in St. Paul and will try and remember to check tomorrow morning before I leave for work.

Re: The Voy project - ridin' durtay
I should mention, that these are the G3 projectors. I think Primo has some of the G1 projectors. The G1's I'm sure would have fit without a problem as they are much smaller. But the G3's have a little better light output so that's why I went with them. But I have a feeling even the G1's weaker light output, is still probably quite a bit better than most OEM halogen setups. I still wonder if maybe I should have just gotten the G1's, but oh well.

Cool let me know. I don't mind driving 15 minutes to get some. But any further than that, and I think I'll use enough gas to have just gone and boughten some myself.
If I buy it myself, where do you get it? I have O'Reilly, Autozone, and Napa all real close. Also Welle's is right up the road, and they always have a lot of paint stuff. Also does anyone else make a similar product for cheaper other than VHT? Walmart usualyl has a pretty big paint selection, so maybe like rustoleum sells a similar product?

Re: The Voy project - ridin' durtay
I just found it, and there isn't a ton left but I would think it would be enough. I work off Rice and University in St. Paul and will probably be around Minneapolis later on. Shoot me a PM or something so I don't clutter up the thread too much.
I picked my can up at the old MAS off of University.

Most O'reilly's stock niteshades also, at least the 3 in St. Cloud do.

I think I may just check out the stores near by here and see how much a can is first. If a can is cheap, I'll just grab a can for myself. If not, I'll hit you up!

Re: The Voy project - ridin' durtay
OK well now that I'm back home, I can continue with some of this.
Just did a light 3 coats of niteshade on the orange reflector pieces that go in the headlight housings. And 2 coats of clear. I didn't wetsand or anything since they're going to be inside a headlight housing. Figured not worth it. The goal here wasn't to black them out, but to just give them a darker orange look. Turned out exactly how I wanted for the most part
Also got my HID kit and DRL killers from Primo!

Re: The Voy project - ridin' durtay
OK well got them to work. One of the ballasts is dead, so I could only play with one side at a time.
Some pics:

Re: The Voy project - ridin' durtay
Here's some light output compare pics. These were all taken within about 30 minutes of each other.
You'll see that I put some tape on the garage door, marking where the 'cutoff' was on the stock halogen setup.
1st is just the stock Halogen:

Thanks man. I wrote Mike a PM saying one is dead. The bulb fires for a split second but then dies. Troubleshot it down to the ballast. So I wrote him a PM asking what we might be able to do. Maybe I'll just give you guys a shout tomorrow and stop by, cuz I wanted to talk about a 4bolt swap on the Talon anyway.

Re: The Voy project - ridin' durtay
Wow, that looks really good man! I wish I had the balls to do a retrofit in the Subie or the talon...
