So looks like I spun a bearing. Time to build a motor or find a junkyard one.

Hoping to just build a motor and get it running solid, no other plans to upgrade anywhere else. I'll start a thread soon and get some input on building a 2.3.

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
I am probably going to be parting out my silver car, the engine in that one is great. 2.4l, wiseco 8.8:1, eagle rods, ARP mains that are dowel pinned and align honed, majorly ported head (my first wild port and not my best work, but it seems to work fine) with Wiseco 415's, 1mm oversized valves on both sides, etc. Made 460awhp at DB on an SCM61 with the small exhaust housing and stock intake manifold.

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
There you go, same shortblock as mine, makes big smiles every minute I drive it. The 2.3 is great but ends up being more expensive unless you're doing all new parts anyways.

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
Plan as of this moment is 2.3, Wiseco HD & howard HD rods.
Something would have to come along at quite a deal for me to shift because I don't want to own a motor wishing it had this and that.
Since the pistons would be custom order I'd be stuck putting it together after the snow flies so I'm not in a hurry.

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
Those HD pistons are nice, good choices.
If money becomes an issue and you're still open to options, I remember the Mahle's being priced pretty well when compared to the competition back when I got my motor built.

Can't go wrong with some HD's I run them in the evo and race machine.

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
The HD's are nice, I wish I had the same 10.5:1's in my car now as I had in the Evo.

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
After pricing out just rods and pistons, a used motor and from someone like Jet looks more like a possibility.
I'll have to update this thread soon with some pics, I've been getting some parts in and well that usually deserves a picture update.

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
Yeah, a short block like mine from MAP is $3,700. It adds up fast. You also know mine was put together right as it has already made decent power and has low miles.
