Widebody kit adds weight and rice appeal. Keep it as it is.

Re: Finally getting stuff done on our cars
Wow, is the front side of the tranny still flat after all that welding? Lookin' good! I am curious to see how long the Mickey Thompson's last for ya, I was looking at those.

Re: Finally getting stuff done on our cars
if not widebody, get some overfenders like this:
Or just leave it.

Re: Finally getting stuff done on our cars
There are some fenders out there, I might widebody it this winter if I want to dump that $$ into it, or if I actually care. The agressive stance is nice.
The trans is 100% perfectly flat.

It's not something I'd be interesting in buying so it's irrelevant to me.

If I were you, I'd get a 100% stock housing and send it off to Advanced Design Concepts to get a CAD model made. It is nearly impossible to 100% reverse engineer a piece like this without some sort of laser scan or touch probe because of all the fine details. By having a CAD model, you could have someone run an FEA simulation on the piece to determine where the stress concentrations are and then be able to specifically target your reinforcements.

True this is much easier.
However we did manage to reverse engineer a transfer case with a similar vague description of what happens with 100% success.

Or you could just weld reinforcements and call it good. Some of y'all over complicate this stuff.

Yes and no. The problem is that stress concentrations are quite unpredictable, the opposite of what most think. Welding in reinforcements can dissipate those concentrations but they may also not address anything and in turn, add unnecessary weight.

Re: Finally getting stuff done on our cars
When I welded it I tried to only do about 1-2" welds at a few different spots and checked with a heat gun and it stayed around 2xx deg the hole time.

Engineering problems for solutions is so much fun though.

Will the transmission be built for the upcoming season, or stock?

My trans has a LSD front diff.
Welded center diff
Quadco output shaft
welded bellhousing
Trying to get a dogbox style engagement off the ground before track day as well.
So I guess it is as "built" or more as they come.

Re: Finally getting stuff done on our cars
figured I would throw up a few pics for those that haven't seen the new setup.
Setup is close. I still have a few brackets to make here and there, some tuning, fixing a head surface finish issue (so the motor is currently back out of the car).
In-fact we stripped the motor down last night. Bearings showed signs of catching stuff (no wonder, I've blown an oil pump to shreads on this new setup) but for the amount of abuse on the setup, I am VERY happy with how everything looked.
So we are gonna toss in a fresh set of bearings and new rings cause its all apart.
I should be back together before June 1st. We are going to try to hit the Cedar Falls track date the 26th.
I will be in Texas this weekend, so John has all weekend to work on his car, I'll have some sweet pics up soon, but here is a teaser:

You'd never believe me but a damm hole saw from Home depot .
I took my time to drill the holes, as someone noticed they are not 100% perfect, but close enough for a "drag car".
I still have to make the rear windage tray to tie the back of the bumper to the gas tank area.
