Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
I wonder if thats why the engineers didn't design the car with a ported manifold, cause of the whistle. Odd.

It would be nice if things like this were disclosed beforehand rather than people not mentioning it until others have trouble. Luckily, I should be able to do the swap myself this time around in under 2 hours. Sticking with my goals: No compromises.

This made me think of whistle tips, that could get annoying fast.

This is the first time I've ever experienced any type of noise from a ported intake manifold, but it's also the first time I've done a N/A car or a plastic manifold. A few guys have some theories as to why the manifold does it, but I'm not going to dink around with it; I plan to just reinstall the stock manifold and not worry about it. I think I know what aspect of his porting it is causing it too but don't want to risk it by having anything done to my stock core.

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
You should throw it on the dyno before you switch back, just to see if the gains are even more than a couple hp.

Haha regardless you can always switch out, but might as well test and compare things since you are doing that with all the other mods? Or did you not dyno after exhaust and whatever else.

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
I've only done direct back-to-back dyno testing on the ported/coated exhaust manifolds since that was part of my deal with MAP. Otherwise, I have a stock baseline dyno run @ Cobb and that's it.

How was the 6 weeks of whistling for you? The first 30 miles must not have been that annoying haha.
Can you even tell on the butt dyno?

Annoying as hell to be honest! I'm very glad it's off.
I never got retuned for the ported intake manifold since after the first test-drive I knew it would be coming off. Without proper retuning the ported intake manifolds show zero gains, so no, I did not feel any difference. I plan to eventually give the WeaponX ported intake manifold a shot since those are not supposed to have any adverse side effects, but he was taking too long and I wanted to have the car 100% for the cruise in two weeks.
I also reinstalled the AFE dry air filter too since the inside of my intake pipe already had a fine layer of oil and dust after running the oiled filter for only a few hundred miles when it was perfectly clean before after thousands on the dry.

...and got the ported intake manifold sold! That will be nice to free up a little garage space. Now, if only I could get my stock exhaust manifold cores sold to free up some attic space!

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
I just need to say, after this weekend, I could not be more impressed and happy with this car! Nearly 40 hours/2250 miles of seat time in 3 days, numerous jaunts over 150, including one to 170...and the car is just stable as a rock in everything but pouring rain/standing water! 26 MPG for the trip overall (including the cruise portion), and 29 average coming home from Iowa yesterday. The engine and transmission took a thrashing without even the slightest hiccup. I was able to stay on 93-octane the entire tire with only one exception, and that was a tank of BP 91 from Dubuque.

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
Gotta feel nice to be able to trust the car to do all that, and in general not even worry about it. I remember back in the day I used to drive my 2G to RRE and back from Arizona. It always made it, but the entire drive was like "do you smell that, did you hear that?" Nice to be able to just enjoy it I bet.

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
Very much so. It's very comforting knowing a car is designed to do something and that no matter how hard I drove it on Saturday, it would get me home on Sunday

Because the little stuff matters
The factory oil cap just says DEXOS on it so I picked up this little guy on Rockauto for $13.
